Default kinda freaking out tonight-strange noises outside our house tonight

I got woke up tonight to some weird noises outside our house. We live in the country so we are used to hearing some animal sounds outside but tonight I heard what sounded like a monkey. It did not sound like an actual monkey but more like a person imitating the sound. Then right after you would hear the monnkey sound you would hear a weird bird call which also sounded like a person imitating it. I woke my husband up and he said he could see someone next to our car but only their shape/shadow he could not make out anything else like whether it was male or a female or clothes colors or anything like that. There have been in the last couple weeks many vehicles broken into in our neighborhood so I am pretty sure it was a person/people outside. It scares me because they have many places to hide in our yard that are dark that we cannot see. With over an acre of land between us and our neighbors with alot of mature oak trees and patially wooded areas if there was someone out there we would have no idea where they were. We did call the police and they are supposed to be coming out but I think that whoever was out there might have left because my husband said he cannot make out the shapes/shadows that were out there by the car anymore. So now we are up waiting for the officer/s to show up and hoping that whoever it is has actually gone away. Tomorrow I am going to have my husband go to the hardware store and pick up some lights for the yard which will help to light up the darker areas of the yard. This is the second night in a row though where we have heard noises outside the house which did not seem right.

Scary stuff. Lucky DH was home. I think you're onto a good idea to get lights for the yard. Sensor lights would be good. I only ever seem to hear noises outside when DH is away. I suddenly get super hearing and every little bump or squeak in the night has me wide awake and worrying. When he's home I don't hear a thing. LOL.

I hope the police come out and find whoever it is. I hate the idea of strangers in my yard.

it took the police a little while to get here so whoever it was was defenitely gone. We do have protection inside should someone decide to break in the house.

The officer said that there is alot of crime out here lately. It never used to be that bad where I live but as the area gets more people moving here it gets worse and I know it gets worse as it gets closer to christmas people are out trying to find ways to make a quick buck.

My in-laws had their van broken into last weekend. The theif/theives only got a satelite radio and they rear veiw mirror though. That is the really strange part of that they actually stole the rear view mirror!!

Maybe it was a monkey immitating a bird.

No, I'm sorry. I thought for sure someone was sneaking around our house yesterday morning and slooooowly peaked my head around the stairs... it was dh, turned around on his way to work because the roads were too bad.

Gah!

Sounds like you need a motion-detection light!

How scary. Did anything look like it was missing or moved in your yard from last night. I second the motion sensored lights.

Did the police have any suggestions?

yea the officer said to get lights. It will be hard though because like I said the yard is really big and the back portion behind us (although not part of our aactual yard) is all woods.

There didnt seem to be anything missing or moved that we noticed. After the police officer left though it really had me worried because he told my husband that there have been alot of burglaries around here and the people were home when they were robbed.

Oh yea the officer would not even walk into the dark areas of the yard when he was here! He told my husband not to either. Since we have protection he told my husband to just keep in closeby and to call back if we hear anything again. He said it is very common to have people make animal sounds like bird calls when they are the lookout for someone so that it does not draw attention to them. I mean we live in the country so I am used to our sheep sounds, our neighbors have cows and there are wild pigs and of course dogs and birds but I have never heard the sound that I woke up to last night. It really was just strange and the best I can describe the sound as is a monkey sound.

That's scary. Hopefully they won't come back whoever it was but I would definitely get some lights.

I hope tonight goes better! Also, hope that they saw the police yesterday and decide to leave you guys alone. I heard from our police once that having the alarm or the dog makes a difference because they will not bother with your house.

(((HUGS))) Jessica...we have been having this problem where we live too. We have our yard fenced off and that is a good thing we've had to put a padlock on it though. We live at the end of the development, and they were susposed to continue developing our neighborhood but they haven't because of the economy. Between our housing development and the next is several back streets the streets are there but the grass and trees are super high so people can hide out back there. WE have walked out recently to cars parked in front of our house or a teen or two just standing in the front of our house. Each time we call the cops out here u think word would get around that we're tired of ppl snooping. My daughter sleeps in the front room by where these people are standing when my husband goes outside for his late night smoke....and it makes me VERY uneasy. I can't wait to move and I'm fixing to go to a counsel meeting ONTOP of bugging the fool out of our builder because this has gotten to be scary and dangerous :| Hope u can try and get some sleep...because I KNOW how scary it can be!

I did not hear anything strange last night and our sheep slept all night so that is usually a good sign. They are kinda like a watchdog as they wake up anytime someone is in the yard. Well so long as it is somewhere they can see them. I think it is bad right now because of it being christmas and people know you are out shopping for christmas and might have stuff in your house or car.

Yikes. I hope he was able to get the lights up and things are better. My husband use to go out on business trips a lot and I would always get weirded out. Keep safe.
