Default Kids these days...

have no clue

We have one of our old TVs in DS's room that he watches occasionally...it also has an ancient VCR connected to it b/c I have about 30 or so old Disney VHS tapes that he watches every now and then. Last night he decided he wanted to watch one before bed and since it wasn't a school night I agreed...well I get the tape in and then I have to rewind it...it TOTALLY confused him...he had no idea why we couldn't just pop it in and press play He nearly had a breakdown waiting the 5 minutes for the tape to rewind (it's one of those VCR's that rewinds really slow too). It just completely cracked me up at how everything in his little life these days is "instant."

that's cute! Our kids don't know what VCR tapes at all so I am sure they would try to unravel one if they found it. When I was pregnant with Parker I got rid of our last VCR and donated all our tapes to the nursing home in town. I tried keeping out the Disney ones to give to the children's hospital but they told us they didn't have VCR's. LOL! So even the kids movies went to the nursing home; the coordinator told me that great-grandkids come to visit so they would all come in handy

My kids sometimes flip out if I can't get to the Root Menu of a DVD by pressing the menu button or the Chapter forward, so I can only imagine what they'd do waiting 5 minutes to rewind

My little one had a meltdown one night in a hotel room because I wouldn't turn Blues Clues on. I tried explaining there was no TiVO and I didn't have magical television powers, but he wasn't havin' it.

That's too cute! I know what you're saying though...it cracks me up how different things are. I'm 25 and the differences amaze me.

One does wonder what kids do with the time they save, when they don't have to rewind or forward for ages on a cassette player to show your friend that 1/2 of a song you recorded from the radio...

My kids were complaining the other night that they couldn't watch one of their shows on the DVR (my husband was watching hockey). DH and I were just rolling our eyes and telling about how "back in the day", kids shows were only on Saturday morning and you couldn't just watch whatever you wanted whenever you wanted. Now, my kids feel deprived if they can't watch Hannah Montana 24/7.

bahaha...I have to do this every time we go to the Grandparents house. Mind you, he has his DVD player with DVDs, but he wants the BIG TV.

Good stories. Reminds of the time my nephew wanted me to pause spongebob so he could go to the bathroom. Obviously he had a DVR at home and we didn't.

Kids these days.... Lol. We used to watch VHS tapes all the time, and waiting for it to rewind was a part of life... we would always take the time it was rewinding to pop some popcorn and get ourselves situated. Now, you pop in the DVD and skip past the trailers and everything, and BAM! MOVIE!

I asked mom if we could find the VCR so I could show my fiance a home video that I only have on VHS... My 10 year old brother asks "What is VHS? And what's a VCR?"

....:: dies ::

Also, years ago, I was playing video games (Gamecube) with my cousin while babysitting him, and he asked if I had a Gamecube when I was little (this was when Gamecube had FIRST come out). I said, No, when I was about your age, I had an Atari. He paused the game, looked at me, and goes "What on earth is an Atari? It sounds dumb..."

:: shakes head ::
