I live in Northern California but a little farther east than Traci. When will you be moving?

I was stationed at Beale for about 3 years before we went to Elmendorf. PM me with any questions. I mean, its been 5 years since we lived there, Traci lives over on the nicer side, near Roseville, Yuba isn't terrible, it was growing like crazy when we left. Yuba is much cheaper than Roseville. Base housing is was getting an overhaul when we left, the house we lived in was torn down from what I understand. It was really old and crappy, but they had a lot of new housing on base and were building a lot of new stuff. |

Yuba City is getting better, it's a pretty agricultural city with a lot of migrant workers + air force peeps. If you can afford it, I would live down here in Lincoln/Rocklin, but vanessa's right, it's probably double the cost to live here...sigh. The schools are so much better down here, the things we do for our kids!

Yep, what they said ... although, houses are getting cheaper here. Lots of short-sales.

![]() If you can't afford to live on that side, Nevada City is nice too, so is Grass Valley, I think a lot of people that choose to live off base try Marysville, its a little nicer than Yuba City, cute little town. |

We used to live in Grass Valley. I grew up in Rocklin and prefer it to GV though I DO love the occasional snow in GV!

Sean worked at the Target Greatland there in Roseville for awhile. Oh, Amy, I don't know if you're wanting to go to school, but Yuba College is super cheap, or at least it was when Sean was going there, like $25 a credit hour. |

We're moving in August. (As long as DH is denied a special duty assignment that he put in for.) Schools will factor in this time as DS1 will start kindergarden while we're there. Going to live off base...leaning heavily toward renting as don't want to get stuck with two mortgages again like when we came up here... My only concern with living further from the base is that DH drives a big V8 truck that chugs fuel...
What's the weather like there??? Highs, lows, sunny, cloudy, any snow?

It'll be a nice change coming from Alaska, but you're seriously going to feel like you're dying of heat stroke when you first get there. We came from Misawa, Japan to Beale in August, so I left the same type of summer Alaska has going there and it was crazy hot. Nothing is close to the base Amy, base housing isn't exactly close either. It was 5 miles from the housing area to mainbase, and if you're DH works on the flightline its probably 10 miles. You'll be shocked when you see the base, there isn't much to it, its a huge base, land wise, but there isn't much else. I loved in the spring that they'd lease the land out and have cows out in the fields. Linda and Wheatland are the closest towns, Linda is GETTO, lots of Meth there, its about 15 miles from the main gate. Wheatland isn't too bad, but its small, and its 8 miles from the housing area. The area is nice, lots of stuff to do, traffic is terrible, it would take us like an hour to drive the 30 miles to Roseville, althought I'm pretty sure they did some road work out there, more lanes of traffic. Going to Yuba was just as bad. That's why I was thankful we lived on base. |

Lincoln has fair schools and is about 20 mins away, Rocklin's schools are top notch and that's about 30 mins away.
Our weather is generally sunny and ranges from (daytime) upper 40s (sometimes upper 30s in cold winters) to 115 in really hot summers, it's a dry heat though. No snow, unless you move in the Grass Valley direction. We've gotten a lot of rain the last few winters, but normally we don't get as much. |

It has snowed here in Roseville ... twice, in like the last 14 years. LOL! That counts ... right?
![]() I love Roseville. I don't have to really drive anywhere because everything is so local. I am not a country girl at.all. Love my city. ![]() ![]()

I just got back from Grass Valley yesterday. My parents live there. I love it up there...love Nevada City, but I don't think I could live up there. I'm used to having major shopping closer to me! Yuba City isn't my favorite area, but if you don't have a choice...I'm sure you'll make the best of it. I could definitely live in Roseville if I had to move up there.

I lived in Sacramento for 5 years (South Sac - don't live there.... and Fair Oaks) and I spent TONS of my time up in Roseville. I definitely recommend Roseville, Lincoln & Rocklin. I kind of miss it....being so close to the mountains and the ocean. But I definitely don't miss the summers! It gets SOOOOOOO hot!! Doesn't matter what you are wearing during the summer - you will start sweating as soon as you step outside. It's disgusting. lol

Good luck on your move.

We live just north of the airport in Woodland but we have family in Wheatland (Sheridan), Colfax and friends in Loomis. I would love to live out that way. Like the other girls said, the closer to Rocklin you get, the better the schools are. Our friends who live in Loomis absolutely LOVE it and say the schools there are fabulous!
And yes, HOT in the summer - probably 10-20 days of 95-105 weather. Pretty mild in the winter. It gets down to freezing but usually we are in the 40's and low 50's in the winter. |
