Default Zach

Zach hasn't slept since 10pm yesterday. I don't mean "hasn't slept" as in, "Oh, he's taken cat naps." I mean no. He hasn't. He hasn't slept a single minute of that time.

It is 7am. I haven't slept at all since 6:30am yesterday. And there will be no naps today because we have a 9am appointment with Parents as Teachers, an 11am appointment, and a 1pm appointment with his doctor. I'm tempted to cancel the last two appointments and just sleep.

I love love love having a newborn. Seriously.

But this sucks.

/rant.

Morning, everyone!

I would cancel the appointments! You need sleep to be able to take care of him!

I feel your pain, and my baby slept... he just woke up 3 times which is way too much for me. I'm exhausted and my body hurts.

Is he sick/feverish? Is he swaddled when he's sleeping? Mine always HAD to be tightly swaddled or they would jerk themselves awake after two minutes. I went through some rough rough times when they were infants until I got some sleep. So yeah, do what YOU have to do to be functional!

I agree with the PP, try swaddling. He has his days and nights mixed up too, try keeping t very light and noisy during the day and dark and quiet at night.

We had a rough night too. It took well over an hour to get the baby to sleep then he was up at 1, the house alarm went off at 3 and he was up at 5:30. I'm at work today....hoping I make it through

Awww you poor thing!! The first few months are ROUGH indeed. I would cancel those appointments, too!! Not only is it important that YOU get sleep, HE needs sleep, too! I second a previous suggestion of keeping it really light and noisy during the day and then very dark and quiet at night - strictly business. I learned that lesson the hard way with my first and now with baby #2 he got his days & nights figured out MUCH quicker!

I hope you are able to get some rest! Do you have a swing? Maybe he'd nap better in a swing for you? That's another thing that worked with my sleep fighter (my firstborn!).

Get a rocking chair or glider, swaddle that baby and rock yourselves to sleep!

Poor baby and poor you! I'd give him a bath with the lavender wash and lotion afterwards, swaddle him and then both of you nap!

Ugh, I remember how awful it was to not get sleep. I kept telling myself that it was just temporary but somehow that never seemed to make it feel better! ((Hugs))! Is there someone who could watch the little one for at least a couple hours so you could get some sleep? If I were anywhere near Kansas, I'd happily snuggle a newborn for an afternoon!

We cancelled, and got some sleep. He doesn't like being swaddled anymore at all, so I didn't try that (and with the jerking, he's still a sound sleeper), and I'm pretty sure his days and nights aren't mixed up (this is the first time it happens, and usually he sleeps mostly through the night except one feeding/diaper change).

When we got up this morning and I was calling to cancel, he puked everywhere. Shortly after that my mom started getting sick, and then Zach started having really really wet poopy diapers.

I've talked to a few people, including the doctor's office, and there's just a bug going around town. Looks like Zach has it, and that's why he wasn't feeling up to sleeping last night.

He didn't have his usual "my tummy hurts" cry, so I was really thrown off, but... it looks like it'll be okay in a day or two.

We're just taking it easy today and resting. He took his usual naps, but otherwise has been awake and alert like any other day, which is good. Hopefully he'll feel better and sleep tonight.

Lol, as soon as my mom woke up, I DID cry. I asked her to watch him for a few minutes and I went and showered and just cried and cried... I felt a lot better getting that out! It's the first time I've really cried since he came home, actually.

I love babies, but I don't miss those days! Trust me, they go by quickly, and next thing you know, he'll be 10 years old! Rest whenever you can, reschedule appointments whenever you need rest, and just enjoy your little guy! If you can get a good 4-5 hour stretch of sleep, I'm sure you'd feel so much better. We've all been there! ((hugs))
