So, my lightscoop came and I think I love it but I have one issue.
Do you have to use Auto when using it? If you can use manual how do you ensure proper exposure? My issue is white balance. For some reason, on auto, my camera can not figure out the white balance in my house. I have yellow walls and these annoying warm up lights and it tricks up the camera. So I want control over my WB but I also want to be able to utilize the flash since my house is dark, especially in the winter. Any ideas?

You actually have to use manual with it. There are instructions on what aperture, etc. to use as well.

What camera do you use?
You can change it to the incandescent WB setting on most (looks like a lightbulb), but even better is to set a custom white balance using a gray card or white wall or something. Upper end cameras with LiveView you can also set a Kelvin number White balance using that. Or just dial a number and see. Auto insides stinks! so some way do a Custom white balance!! For flash photography you expose for the background you want and then use the flash to "fill" in the subject. This works well with the lightscoop because it is hard to get strong flash on your subject bouncing it up, so you have to expose with your camera more. |

I tend to use Aperture with mine. I use the set your own white balance option on my camera, where you take a photo of something white first & it sets the white balance from that photo. I have a white lens cap I use. Then I do a test shot & set the Aperture from it. Though at this point I can sort of guess what I need.
I'm not so good with Manual though in general. |

With the XS, you have to manually focus on the white object, take a photo, go into the menu system, select Custom White Balance and then select the image you just took.

Thanks Meg!
I was doing that but not selecting the image and then wondering why nothing happened. I wish those cameras came with an easy to read manual.
