Question Dress/shoe/hose help!!!

So I'm not a dressing up person...I can't tell you the last time I wore a dress/skirt and it's been even looooooonger since I wore hose, but my oldest has her first semi formal dance coming up and I need help!!!!

This is the dress we bought (the picture is deceiving....it looks white but it's really a nice nude color):

And these aren't her exact shoes but they look similar.....mid heel black strappy slingback (her's are a shinier leather and the straps are thinner):

But I have no idea about hose...it's cold here...very cold, so I think she needs hose: do we go with black....do we go with nude...since they are open toe do we go with seamless (that is a kind of hose right!?!? )? Also does see need some type of necklace? We are going with just simple [fake] diamond earrings because she is wearing her hair down...but I'm not sure if the neckline on the dress is too "high" for a necklace....maybe a choker (are those still "in fashion)?

I'm also assuming this dress is fine for semi formal wear...I let her talk me into buying it (we were just suppose to be looking) before I could look up what semi formal wear was (how sad is that...I had to look it up ), she assured me that many of her friends bought the same type of dress!!

Thanks for any help you all can give me...I'm sure SHE will greatly appreciate it!!!

oh that dress is so super cute!! How exciting for her first dance!!

I'd vote no hose but since it's cold I'd go with seamless nude if she must wear them

I think a necklace would be cute but the dress is pretty enough that just earrings would be fine too since she's wearing her hair down

I'm a *i wear pantyhose with everything* gal.. So I say def buy some.. nude is fine... colour's a personal preference imo. and make sure if you do go with nude you get actual nude, not the orange brown ones.. take her with you so you can see what her skin tone is against the nylons Apparently the average person is oranger/darker than me or something bc i always have a hell of a time finding a pair.

I'd def have her wear a necklace.. and i'd probably make her wear a shrug. Short sleeved shrug is fine.. but i think she should cover up ESP since it's cold. She cant ake it off later if shes hot. I got an awesome cropped sleeve one at kohls.

This is what I was thinking too. That dress is totally cute and appropriate for semi-formal too. How fun!

I vote no necklace. The earrings will be plenty. If she wants a little something more, maybe a cute bracelet that matches. As for hose.......I would go without. No matter how cold just because they are open toed shoes. Just give her a coat to get there to and from. In the dance she won't need to be all that warm. Plus, hose aren't that warm anyways, it won't make much of a difference.

That dress is so cute! I think it is perfect for a semi-formal dance!

Oh thanks ladies!!! I think we'll buy the hose and play it by ear with the weather...I mean it's the middle of December and it's 50 degrees today.....but it's only suppose to be a high of 34 on Saturday (low of 26).

One more question...should she paint her toe nails if she going to wear the hose....I know if she doesn't them painted nails will look fine...but will they look weird under the hose!?!?!

I am from Florida, so the idea of wearing that dress in 50 degree weather is giving me hypothermia at this very moment!

I vote for:

YES hose! Although I hardly ever wear them, I do think they're appropriate for cooler weather.
NO to the strappy shoes (I know that wasn't a vote, but strappy shoes with hose on your toes say "Nursing Home" granny to me, I just don't go there, I think it's a tad tacky). I would wear closed toe with the hose... or even black hose that are a bit more opaque.
YES to a cute shrug or scarf-y type thing for her shoulders (34 degrees!!!!)
NO to the necklace. The dress doesn't need one.

... and if she must wear the strappy heels, Victoria's Secret has great lighter colored nude hose that are open toe. They have a little loop that goes around your big toe to keep the hose from sliding up your foot and leg.The hose end with a little elastic where your toes begin.

I work for a large formalwear website and hose/nylons are pretty much out of style right now. Which is stupid when it's cold. I do agree that hose with open-toed shoes seems granny-ish to me. I'd go for pumps if I was wearing hose. But YES to painted toenails...at all time (for me).

You could do a necklace as long as it's not a pendant or Y necklace.

The dance inside will probably be hot, so I'd just have her wear her regular coat and she'll take it off when she gets there.

I absolutely hate wearing hose, and definitely wouldn't wear them with strappy open-toed heels but that's my personal preference. If I did have to wear hose I would opt for heels without an open-toe. And I think the dress is super cute and would be great with a black shrug or wrap for her shoulders!

i agree with the comments above - super cute dress and super cute shoes but, since they are open toe, i vote for no hose! if she needs hose, then i think closed toe shoes look better. i think that since the dance is inside, you can get away w/out the hose if she is wearing a long coat. or maybe get some cute leg warmers to wear while walking outside - that she can then take off when she's at the dance ... and definitely paint the toenails

No hose... I'm 23 and can promise you that I would have refused to wear hose with strappy shoes five years ago- even in cold, cold weather. Heck, I probably would refuse today. lol. Fashion isn't always smart and sometimes can be painful (and cold).

I love the dress though. Super cute!

No hose - especially with those shoes. If she were wearing close-toed shoes, I'd be okay with the hose, but with open-toed no way.

Love the dress! She's going to look perfect!

I wore open toe shoes to a party a couple weekends ago. I didn't wear hose but it wasn't a big deal because I was only running to and from the hotel shuttle.

I did buy open toe hose but I put them on and took them right off. LOL! I had a longer dress on though so I did have some coverage in the cold.

I heard on Good Morning America a few weeks ago that hose are back in fashion.

I've always heard that hose with open toed shoes is a HUGE fashion faux pas. I hate hose so I never wear them. But if I was your daughter wearing that dress to a dance during winter I would still say no hose. Legs are going to be cold either way.

Add me to the no hose club. She's going to be cold either way, so at least look your best! Those shoes are adorable and that dress is ca-utie! And definitely painted toes!

ad me to the no hose club, but I LOVE the dress and I think just the earrings will be perfect, but I think if you can find her a cute little shrug to wear over her shoulders that would be really cute as well...can't wait to see pictures

I wanted to add that I chaperoned a few of Sam's dances last year and it ended up being super hot in the building so I just wanted to let you know that she may be warm in the building without hose

I agree that with the open-toed shoes, no hose or very sheer hose only (toe seam must be hidden!). I would go with some sort of wrap/pashmina kinda thing instead for warmth.
