Default Elf on the Shelfers...leaving?

When is your elf leaving? I know he is supposed to report back before Christmas Eve night. So are you having him leave at night on the 23rd or 24th? Or is he disappearing during the day on the 24th?

Last year we had a Grinch that did funny things...no elf...and he never left.

We didn't see the movie. On purpose I didn't DVR it since we have an elf that looks different.

That is what I was thinking. I am going to put a note that says he's leaving and would like a goodbye hug and then to place him under the tree.

"Elfie" will be leaving us Christmas Eve night after Santa puts the presents under the tree. I'm going to have him write the kids a goodbye letter and tell them he'll be back next year. My kids have been soooo in love with that stinkin' thing, I hope they don't cry!!! I'm just hoping that they are too excited with their Christmas presents to worry about him leaving.

I would recommend the movie to everyone- it is so cute! My kids watch it at least twice a day, every. single. day! But there are some of the rules in it with the elf, so you might want to watch it if you are following the "rules", like not allowing your kids to touch him. It plays a pretty big part of the movie.

Yeah, our book said not to touch him, but L.J. does every day. It just means he has to pop back to the North Pole every night. hehe

FWIW, the movie is on DVD and I found it at Target. Our elf looks nothing like the one in the movie either.

As for leaving...DD gets REALLY, REALLY attached to things and so DH and I decided Gloria would just make a very quiet departure some time after Christmas.

Elvin leaves with Santa. Santa drops off presents & picks up Elvin. He waits by the chimney with the snacks we set out for Santa. Last year the boys wrote a note to Santa saying they loved having Elvin visit & hoped he would come again this year.

Santa always leaves a note for the boys thanking them for looking after Elvin & playing with him (we have a plush elf they can play with) and saying Elvin really enjoyed visiting.
