Default Thinking of deleting...

ACDSee. I never use it. I still haven't even added everything into it. It confuses me.

Tell me why I should keep it on my puter and convince me that I need to use it and not waste the $$$ I spent on it.

Wish I could convince you. Not sure which product you got, but last year I won the most current at the time ACDSee for digital imaging. I never did figure it out and it's not installed on my pc now. I found it confusing as all get out as well.

I'm lost without ACDSee. I won mine last year and I've been using it since then. I'm not even close to tagging everything I have and I don't think that it will ever happen. I do love the pop up preview when I move my mouse to an element ( or paper) and the image basket features.

Oh, don't give up on it yet! What if you spent like 15 minutes a day tagging the stuff you love? That's my new goal.

Mimi loves it, too. Maybe she can help you get started.

Noooooo, don't do it!!! I just got ACDSee a little while ago and right now I'm just tagging all the new stuff I get - I tag it before I ever use it and it really only takes me about 2 minutes per kit.

Here
is an AWESOME ACDSeeforum - they answer any question you might have. I have scrolled through alot of it and found what I needed and then what I didn't find I just posted my question and quickly got a response.

Back away from the delete button, back away....

Like others have suggested, just tag your new stuff. A few kits at a time. It's so helpful when you're looking for that perfect frame or flower, or button. You can even search by designer (that you've tagged). Like the other day I needed the perfect alpha and I needed it from ScrapKitchen. I clicked on my alpha tag and then sorted it by "author" and voila, found the alpha I needed without opening a zillion folders.

noooooooooooooooo. don't do it . would you delete Windows Explorer? ACDSee is Windows Explorer on crack and steroids. Fast and powerful.

I'm really haphazard and so behind with my tagging but that does not bother me b/c ACDSee simply ROCKS.

I'll just list some of the features in no particular order

1. pop up previews as Jacq mentioned
2. can extract multiple folders to same destination
3. ABR brush viewer is cool and useful
4. can preview TTF files (fonts!)
5. can create zip files and contact sheets
6. you can view contents of multiple folders in one window
7. can change background color for png files so that you can actually see white pngs
8. can do batch processes like rename, resize, file format conversions
9. can see thumbnails of PSD files (assuming the psd file was saved to maximize capability)
10. can open up your files from ACDSee. in fact when I start a layout, I always open ACDsee first. You can select multiple files and ctrl e and voila all your files open up in your default photo editor.

Why are you not using it? Don't feel like you have to have everything tag. Tag as you go. Tag a little bit at a time. Use it to browse through your stash. I prefer to use ACDSee to browse my stash than Windows Explorer.

One important thing to remember though is that once you start using ACDSee, do everthing within ACDSee (e.g., moving files, renaming, deleting).

The first time I tried ACDSee I didn't like it that much. But I gave it another shot and am soooooo hooked.

ETA: I am talking about ACDSee10 PhotoManager

I agree don't do it!! I bought it and heh and hawed for like a month because I had so much to tag it felt so overwellming, but I just dived in one day and started and it took me a good 5 days to get everything tagged, but now it is SO awesome to know that if I want a tied ribbon or a blank journal thing all i have to do is just click that categorie and see ALL the tied ribbons I have right there at my finger tips! LOL

Meems or Jacq, do you have a sample of how you tag stuff?

I might play around with it a bit more this weekend before deciding to completely get rid of it forever.

Doesn't it slow down your editing program? I use PSE5 on my laptop and when I get a bunch of stuff open it really starts to bog down. I don't have any patience for slow things...

OMG... I would be lost without ACDSee!

Even if I didn't use anything else, I couldn't live without the drag and drop feature, straight into PS. It saves a few seconds, but I love not having to do file>open. I think browsing is easier this way.

Even if you aren't a big tagger, you can still search supper fast with ACDSee, unzip multiple folders, view brushes, and the pop-up or enlarged view is great for not having to open something completely to see the detail!

I am a kit scrapper and I use ACDSee. The main reason is for alphas. I keep a kit's alpha with that kit. So I don't see many of my alphas when I open my 'alpha' folder (which holds stand alone alphas). If I go into ACDSee though and choose the Alpha tag or any of it's sub tags, like 3D silhoutte, paper, glass for example I get ALL my alphas, even from kits, that are 3D silhouttes, in paper or glass.

I don't use it all the time but it is very handy when I am remembering a frame or a ribbon but it isn't in the stand alone 'frame' or 'ribbon' folders. I can click 'frame' in ACDSee and every frame I own appears & I can find the one I am thinking of. I like browsing my stash through Windows which is what I usually do, but ACDSee is handy when I want something specific or am not finding anything that suits what I want.

Even if you don't tag your stuff, it still works great for just searching... like searching for "button" brings up alot of buttons since most designers name the file with button in it.

Same thing with designer names, if you know how the designer names her files you can find the designer files by searching. For example Paula Duncan names her files with pduncan so searching that brings up all her files.

I also like browsing thru my photos with acdsee much better than windows explorer.

I can try to get a list of my categories but I suggest you think about how you look for stuff and how you scrap and categorize by that. Have you been to DigiScrapInfo.com? There are premade categories there and lots of good info in general. Also good place to ask questions and get help.

I always have ACDSee open when I use PS CS3 (and PSE6 before that). I haven't had any problems. When I used PSE and would accidentally open the Organizer I would shut it down immediately b/c Organizer is slow and slows down stuff. There's just no way I could scrap w/o having ACDSee open . Sometimes I even have 2 windows of ACDSee open.

*slow motion*

Dooooooon't doooooooo ittttttttttttttttt

Seriously LOL I love mine. Right now I have nothing tag'd because I lost all my info when my laptop died on me. but I still use it just to see the papers big & elements before i drag them over and Its just awesome. I prob should start tagging but I'm lazy and I already had almost everything tagged and I dont wanna do it again. *pouts* The one thing I tag right away is ct kit previews I put them in my need to scrap folder and then when they are done i take them out and put them in my scrapped kits folder so with one click of a button i can see which kits i need to scrap with or look at all the kits I am done with

I am SO behind on my tagging.

But you know what I always use it for and love? I just started this recently. I tag my photos. I went through all my 2004-2006 photos and tagged which ones I wanted to scrap and categorized it by year. Now when I need photos, I just click on my 2004 (or 5 or 6) to be scrapped category and can see them all very easily.

Also, I tag my layouts by year and child so that I know can quickly and easily find the layouts when I need to print them.

I am such a kit scrapper as well. I don't often go back to find a certain thing in a certain kit. But, I still think ACDSee is great. I'm thinking I will make broader categories and then it won't take as much work but I'll still have things tagged.

I felt the same way as you did. I found it confusing and was about to delete it and then I saw on Jessica Sprague's website that Heidi from DigiScrapInfo (which someone already gave you the link to) offered a class on ACDSee. I am just a few days into the class (it just started on Monday) and I am so glad I did not delete it and gave it another chance!! It is awesome! I am also mostly a kit scrapper and ACDSee lets you customize your tagging the way you scrap.

Now to just get through all the tagging.....ugh!
