Lonely in Quebec...
Hey everyone! It's been a looooong time since I've been active around here. Hubby was deployed to Afghanistan and he apparently took my mojo with him, then he hid it somewhere when he got back So even though he got back 1 yr ago, I'm just getting back into the scrapping mode.
Then we moved... from Alberta where all my friends were (we lived there for 8yrs) all the waaaaaay to Quebec! We're closer to family (8hrs drive instead of 5 days drive) but still - I'm feeling very isolated and alone I started getting dirty with hybrid crafting yrs ago, just before loosing my mojo and would love to get together with some people in real life to do some hands on as well as digi crafting... maybe try some art journaling, smash booking etc... I speak a little french, but live in a very french community - even most of the parents from my DD's english school - are actually french. So all of this to say... Does anyone live IRL somewhere around Montreal, Quebec??? I'd love to get together for a day/weekend of crafting occasionally (when hubby's not tasked out somewhere)... and bitch with another anglophone about the "frenchies" of Quebec... lol... Thanks for letting me vent! |

Good luck finding a crafty friend, Monique. Sorry I can't help you with the irl thing, but this forum is a nice place to hang around and talk "scraps." I know there are a number of hybrid scrappers and smash book fans here as well. Getting to know them and the rest of the community might curb some of your loneliness.

Thanks girls
My problem is the local scrapbooking store is of course going to be all french. I'm still hoping to go to a crop or class and try to fumble my way through in hopes of finding a few someones who are also english. Darn language barriers... lol |

Thanks Kristin - I don't think I've really been in any other forum since I joined here back in 2007... lol... maybe I'll check out some of the larger sites.

Stephanie (Nanienamou) lives in Quebec I believe, near the Ontario border (close to Ottawa) and Kiki lives in Ottawa. Those are the only 2 around you that I know of...although it's probably not close enough.

Thanks Jenn! Yah I knew Kiki was near - we're hoping to get together some day while I"m out here, but it's a couple hrs to Ottawa from here (or more depending on time of day and traffic... lol).
hmm... I wonder how close nanienamou is... :-) |

Have you tried checking http://www.meetup.com/ at all? I don't know if it's popular in Canada or not but it might be worth a look. I've checked it out for finding groups when we've moved around for the military.

Thanks for the tip! I've never heard of them. I checked them out (before coming here to reply) and found a group in Montreal - but the other end of the city, so not really helpful. But it's nice to know that if I keep looking I might be able to find something closer

Monique I'm in Ontario, GTA. It's 337 miles (539 km) away from you. And my family and friends are 5.200 miles (8.500 km) away.
Just to say I totally understand how and what you're feeling. IDK, maybe we could meet halfway? Or you could come here (there's the Via Rail train) or I could go meet you someday. The only thing is I'm living here for almost a year now, so my English is just ear-hurting. In French I can say "merci" and "s'il vous plaît". xoxo

Hey Giseli!! I had forgotten that you'd moved here last year! I'd love to get together some time
I just checked on Mapquest - and you're even farther away from me than my family is... lol. Just in another direction... lol. Maybe some time when my hubby's away my DD and I can take the bus over to see you |

For sure! You can come whenever you like. With or without your family. I'll make an authentic Brazilian cup of coffee or maybe a yerba mate tea.
I know it's way too far, but it would be awesome to meet you xoxo
