Default Sensory Disorder??

Does anyone here have a child with a sensory processing disorder. After reading Janet Philips blog Friday night I have been reading more and more about it and I am pretty sure THIS is what my son has. I have know for a while that something just wasn't right but I couldn't get his behaviors to fit into any typical diagnosis ... like ADHD, Autism, Asperger's, ect. I am searching for an occupational therapist in town and I think I have one lead.

Yes, my two year old has SPD. It has been a hard diagnosis to discover, and it's currently taking all my spare energy learning how to deal with Aidan's most recent "ticks."

I don't either, but I also found Janet's post fascinating. It's really troubling how many children are being affected by these types of disorders and I wonder what it is in our environment that is causing these sorts of things. My prayers go out to you as you go down this road, too.

Amanda, is Aiden a "hyper sensitive" or a "Hypo Sensitive"? I am discovering that Anthony is more on the Hypo Sensitive in most areas. He is definitely has lots of sensory seeking behavior.

Aidan is both, depending on the situation, and we're still learning what will set her off and what won't. Aidan has a lot of tactile defensiveness, but she is a sensory seeker in other areas. The one thing we've learned the hard way is that there is no "cookie-cutter" mold that all kids will fit into.

My son has several sensory issues. Potty training was crazy because he would cover his ears in fear every time he flushed the potty. He also can't stand strong smells like coffee or any kind of bumpy foods. It has been quite a challenge but OT is a big help. He is in 1st grade now and doing great! If you ever have questions or want someone to chat with feel free to pm me.

Not here, but Jen Strange's son was diagnosed with it a while back...I think his diagnosis has changed or at least gotten more precise from there since, but she reads a TON about that stuff. Look her up on GoodReads, she's got all sorts of stuff on there.
