Default Ultrasonic rodent repellents - anyone use one/did it work?

We spotted a baby mouse in our garage over the weekend. We let him go, but the others haven't been so lucky. Three mornings in a row of going out there to find a polished off box of DCon. Yuck. We live out in the country, right across from an open field but knock on wood, in 11 years of living here, we had only had one other problem with mice (for a few weeks and then they were gone).

Anyway, I hate using the DCon -- I'm sure traps would be much more humane but I don't want to have to deal with those (finding the dead mice).

I am looking at those things that you plug into the wall to (supposedly) deter mice from your home. Has anyone here tried one and did it work??

Any other advice for keeping them OUTside and away from the INside would be very much appreciated!!

I dont know how well that repellant thing works. My mom had one and we never had mice in the house as kids but it was supposed to repel bugs too but we would constantly have palmettto bugs coming in the house

Wow, I never knew that peppermint oil acts as a repellant to mice. Wish I had known that growing up - I was terrified of the lil buggers. We always got them every winter, since we lived in a small town with almost nothing but grain elevators all around us. Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks Jessica. I had actually heard this before about the peppermint oil. Interesting! I think I'll pick some up at the store and give it a try!

My grandmother uses the plug in the wall rodent repeller things. She's used them for years and she never has mice. Kind of surprising because she lives out in the country with fields all around her, but I can't ever remember her having a mouse. So I guess they work, lol.

We have shrews in the park (which is left "natural") behind our house and every winter, all the houses backing onto the park end up with shrew trails throughout the lawn (they burrow in the lawns underneath the snow cover). Despite being so prolific, we've never had them in our garage, and I suspect it is in part to having two (2!) of the electronic mouse repellents plugged in the outlets in our garage (it came in a 2-pack, so we figured we might as well use them!).
