this is such a minor thing but i'm a lil annoyed about it..
They have snack in the classroom- before lunch- sometime, not sure when.. but in the morning.. The past week- ce's been NOT eating his breakfast- at all. A bite or two, this isn't going to cut it. So in his snack pocket I've been putting 2 *SMALL* snacks. Really. A small apple, and one of those lil packets of raisins. I know how long it takes ce to eat- and he's never had a problem. If he's not eating his breakfast i want to get in as much food as i can during snack time so he doesn't fall on his face by lunch @ school. There's never been a rule about the # of snacks-- just that they must eat it within x time. Ce inhales these snacks, it's why i give him THOSE snacks. I'd love to give him something heartier but with the peanut free rules & his own allergies there's not much i can do.. Anyway, some lil girl in his class has been complaining that ce has two snacks.. and the TA took one of ce's snacks away from him today- according to ce she ripped it out of his hands ![]() I'm pretty sure- it's up to me- as the parent- to make sure that ce's getting adequate food in his tummy during the day- Not up to the TA to decide he doesn't need an apple & raisins. I want to bring this up with the teacher.. but am I wrong? am I being stupid, and should just send him in with a measly apple and let them deal with the consequences of ce being hungry??

Um, that is insane!! I would talk to the teacher and explain to her why you are sending 2 snacks and that if they have an issue with it to talk to you instead of snatching something from his hands. She could have just asked him to put the other one away. I would have been annoyed too.

I'd call or email her and ask her to clarify if there is a rule about the amount of snacks. And ask about the incident.
Personally, I would approach it as curious due to the incident and wanting information, not hostile or accusatory, though I would be annoyed. It was the TA not the teacher? Possibly the TA is undertrained & wasn't thinking & needs to have the rules re-expained to her as well |

I have 2 takes on this. One, you're allowed to send whatever the hell you want and they're not allowed to take food from your son. Period.
Secondly. I would totally make Karsten have one snack and tell him that he only has one snack so he'd better eat his breakfast. I'm not ok with wasted food around here so if he doesn't eat something I give him, I don't let him eat till the next meal. haha I'm mean like that. |

Yeah I would just ask curiously about it and see what the teacher says. I can see both sides...you should be able to give your kid whatever you want especially since it's healthy stuff, but kids are kids and I can totally see the others being jealous about not having two.

From a teacher/school point of view, if you're providing his snack, then who cares if it's one or two?
As a parent point of view, I'm with Traci. I'd tell him he gets one snack so he'd better eat his breakfast. I'm mean like that though. ![]()

Talk to his teacher. Explain to them that he does not feel like eating breakfast in the AM and is ready to eat at snack time. It is not like you are giving him a cupcake and a candy bar! In K, at snack time, the kids have whatever they bring in their snack bag... some kids have more than one thing--a cheese stick AND crackers, heaven forbid!
I hate when they give power to a person just because they complain. This little girl needs to mind her own business!! When you talk to the teacher, focus on CE, not the busybody... Let her know that you are trying to get him to eat and ask for her help with this. A well fed kid is going to be better behaved for her!!

Let us know what happens La. I would contact the teacher for sure. A baby apple and raisins is a tiny snack! I mean geez. It would be different if you sent him with a double cheeseburger and fries.
![]() You know what...put it all in one bag....then it's a snack mix! (you know...the whole apple and then the raisins tossed in.... ![]()

I was going to sugest what Neenee said. Put it all in one container and see if that makes the TA happy.
But definitely send a note to the teacher. If it continues to be an issue you can get a note from his doctor stating he needs the snacks for dietary reasons. And wth with the kids tattling? It isn't like he had a bag of m&ms and sucker. It was an apple and raisins.

I think you've received some great advice on this. I just wanted to suggest maybe finding a way to combine the apple and raisins so he's only got one snack but still has both? Maybe slice the apple and put it in a baggie or small tupperware-y container with the raisins, sprinkled with a smidge of lemon juice to keep the apples from browning? Just a thought.

Before I continue...remember my mood today and take it for what it's worth LOL
I'd have been really upset! Maybe go speak to the teacher before you yell at her, and tell her why. I always send 2-3 snacks with the kids, because they don't have time in the morning to tell me what they'd like, and this way, there should be something they like. Most times they just have time to eat 1, sometimes more, but they are like Ce, they have a set time to eat, but not a set number of snacks. Every friday they have nuggets and fries at the cafeteria. They don't have it every day, and Rae seriously only eats about 5 different things total. So she does like nuggets and I sent money with her last Friday for lunch. I asked her when she got home if she enjoyed it, and she said she didn't get lunch. Apparently, they took the money and didn't give her a lunch? WTF? So when we went in on Monday, they gave us back the money. Hello...that doesn't take away from the fact she didn't have lunch on Friday! She probably wouldn't have liked it anyway, but that's not the point!

thanks guys i feel better that i'm not being a total wackadoo.. (and jamie i can't believe th ey didnt give her a lunch!!) Ce's (always) been underweight- and i've been working hard to get his weight up (he gained 3lbs this year *woot*) so I'd hate to have some stupid crap at school mess with that. His breakfast doesn't get wasted.. I wrap it up & if he's hungry after school i make him eat it then ^_^ (i make him hearty breakfasts.. not like soggy cereal 6 hrs later that'd be narly)

as a teacher, I wouldn't care if it was 2 or 3 snacks as long as it's healthy and he can eat it in the set amount of time.
as the parent, I'd be ticked off big time if someone took away the snack I sent! ![]() then the teacher needs to buck it up!

Thats crazy! Would she rather have a kid underfeed? Tell that whiney little girl to have her mom send her 2 snacks if she is so jealous! I'd definitely talk to the teacher.

I'd just ask the teacher if it is ok to send both in. Explain to her what you've explained here.

Firsty, that girl is a brat.

I think the TA should have told the girl to not worry about anyone else's snack.

I think it was really crappy of the TA to do that, not going to lie. Here's a possibility, but I know it will take extra work on your part... what if you slice the apples (spritz with lemon juice so they don't brown) and put them in a ziploc WITH the raisins, so it seems like one snack, but is really sneaking in two? Just a thought. Then it wouldn't cause issues with the other kids, etc. But yeah, she shouldn't have done that, and as the parent, it is your right to send what you want.
