Default Death Star cake - forgot to share

Ok so I make the boys cakes because we can't do storebought due to DS's allergies. Well I have to show off a little because this year it turned out so good!! I actually did a fondant free cake (almost)!!

I had the soccerball half cake pan already, baked it twice, added a thin round cake to make it less squished, then frosted it with chocolate buttercream (tinted black). Smoothed it out with the paper towel technique (google it)! then used my fondant cutter thingie to roll out lines around it and then painted on silver edible coloring. I used the candles for the laser beams.

Then I made the ships (Star Destroyers, Super Star Destroyer, Republic Shuttle) out of a small batch of marshmallow fondant and used these wire cake thingies I found at Michaels for $2.50.

It turned out so well and I've been "hired" by the girls at Starbucks here to make one for their birthday next month. I said they could pay me in coffee! LOL

This is awesome! I'll have to make sure my DS does not see this, or he'll want one for his birthday!

Coolest thing ever. My son would flip out for that! Clever candle/laser. Well done!
