Just a curious question. We're home from church because Connor has wicked bronchitis, I'm coming down with his cold, and Russ just feels blah. So instead of resting, I'm vacuuming the beds.
![]() Curious if anyone else does it. |

Haha! great question. DH has a vaccum fetish and vaccums everything - I actually caught him vaccumming the crumbs off of the table a couple of times... So yes, he vaccums the beds and couches. He even rents a carpet steam cleaner once a year to wash the matresses, the couches and the car carpet and seats.

We have in the past. A Kirby demonstrator came in to our home as a child and vacuumed one of the beds and then showed us the amount of skin cells and such that were coming from the mattress. It stuck with me so I vacuumed beds... until now. We all have new beds and in order for the warranty on the beds to stay active we had to buy mattress protectors. These mattress protectors are awesome and completely protect the mattress. All we do now is wash the mattress protectors.

Hmmm... no? Is this something I should be doing? My mother never vac'd the beds and she is semi-OCD neat freak.
We stayed home and didn't go to church this morning, either. We all have colds. ![]() |

We stayed home too :0/ I slept like crap (sunburn blah) and my whole body was just hurting this am. We all benefited from sleeping in..it's been go-go-go for weeks now
no we don't vacuum beds...maybe we should. I bet it would cut down on the allergy attacks here in this house.

Hmmm...never occurred to me to do that. We all need new mattresses, just not in the budget.
And yes, we'd love to replace our carpet. About the only thing we can manage right now is pulling it up and staining the concrete floor. I'm nervous to do that though. |

Meg - that's the primary reason we do it - Connor's allergies. We have a really really dusty house , and between that and the dustmites in beds (and the other gunk in there), we do it to try to keep his allergies at bay - though we really need to pull out the carpets in the house - just not enough money in the budget to put anything in it's place lol

We're home sick too! Ugh! Yes, we vacuum our beds! And, we have a carpet steamer that has an attachment for mattresses. So, usually twice a year, we shampoo & or steam them too!

It's not part of my regular routine (if what I have can be classified as a routine, lol) ... but I do occasionally do it to keep allergens under control.

![]() Allergens would be the reason I would vacuum the beds if we didn't use the mattress protectors (which serve the same purpose). We all have really bad allergies here and its a constant struggle. We moved from a house with only one 5x7 area rug to a house almost 3x the size with 90% carpet. I'd love to get rid of all of the carpet but DH, despite the allergy attacks, says he likes carpet. I don't even know what is under ours. I'm positive we have some sort of wood floors because that's just how the houses were built in those days but I doubt it is a nice hardwood. |

Sadly enough I don't even vacuum the floors often enough. LOL It's one of my least favourite things in the household.

I've thought about it - and always meant to do it. We just bought a new bed, so I might make it mandatory whenever I change the sheets!!

Never done it, but I do have to say it makes perfect sense. But like Sherri mentioned, we use a mattress protector for our mattress warranty, so I do wonder how much "stuff" makes it past the protector.

I don't (and probably won't, if we're just being honest...I'm so lazy!) BUT the thought never occurred to me to occasionally steam clean the mattress and I might do that every so often!

This is interesting. My first thought was that you were off, lol, but now I see that you are in good company.
We don't own a vacuum cleaner (all tile floors), or I would start now based on what everyone has said.

I normally only vacuum our spare bedroom bed because our cat literally thinks that's HIS bed, and it's constantly covered in his hair.

I've done it a couple. Can't imagine doing it weekly, but we don't have big allergy problems here. If we did, I'm sure I would do it more often!

I've started vacuuming my son's bed and our bed because I read somewhere that you're supposed to do it at least once a month, esp if there are allergies in the household. Besides, my son still wets the bed, and even after it dries and I de-oderize it, the dried crystals remain. After I vacuum his mattress, it helps a lot. Plus, I noticed that the Dyson clear compartment was grossly full from dust. Next I do my husband's and my bed. We live in a very dusty area.

I barely vacuum my floors much less the beds. Add that to the never ending list of chores. ha ha

I saw an "expose" on oprah a few years ago about how dirty things like mattresses were and they vacuumed the mattress..though I think I've only done it once.

I have but seldom... like when lice was going around the schools... then I vacuumed everything... or when we moved. Right now, we don't have allergies.

I have never heard of someone vacc'ing their bed before. I have a dog and I am concerned about the dog hair getting around the mattresses ... he isn't allowed in my bedroom ... will a regular vac suck up those dust mites if they are in a mattress? I have an expensive mattress (sleep number) ...
