I'm thinking of getting my oldest one for her birthday next month..anybody have one and do you like it..is it worth it? I was just going to get her a laptop but if the netbook is really all she needs then I'd like to save the extra $$$ and just get her that.
She doesn't do much online..plays on facebook, pogo occasionally, and watches you tube..that's it really should I save the $$ and just get a netbook? or spend extra and get a laptop? (she's turning 14 btw)

My MIL has both a netbook and a laptop. She uses the netbook a LOT more then the laptop. Facebook, some card games and e-mail. She's very satisfied with her netbook, to the point where she's considering giving my boys the laptop.

Amelia has one, she is only 7 though. She plays her games on it (Barbie.com, Webkinz, etc) no problem. I got her the netbook because she really doesn't play on the computer that much, and only has a handful of sites that she likes. This one definitely does what she needs.
I think if she is 14, I would get her a full sized laptop, only because you don't know what else she might get into over the next couple of years, and she might want the larger screen for homework, projects, and maybe some graphics stuff!

My techie hubby got a acer aspire one netbook for Christmas... he loves it... mostly uses it to surf the web, facebook, and email at nights while I'm scrapping on the my laptop... And it's powerful enough for him to edit huge audio files for radio. And a nifty little price tag...

We had a 17" laptop and a 9" netbook.
The laptop has been sold, because we didn't use it that much. At home I used my normal PC and for taking it with me it was just to big and heavy. We used the netbook more often, but I wanted to scrap on it and for that it was to small and it had not enough memory. So we sold that netbook too and now have a 13" mini laptop. We are very happy with it. It's still small for scrapping, but it's workable and it has much more memory. One thing, the netbooks don't have a CD- or DVDom player. If your daughter wants to play games, sometimes putting in the CD or DVD is necessary. |

My mom has the Dell lollipop and she loves it. She hasn't complained of any problems with it and she's one of those "turn it on and go" type of people. If it doesn't work right, she is on the phone with me trying to get me to tell her what to do. LOL

From Jacob's 8th grade year on, he has had to spend a LOT of time doing homework on the computer. Whatever you pick, I'd make sure it will be good for that. Some netbooks don't have a CD drive, so installing programs and games can be difficult. My dad has a netbook and it's good for him because all he does is check his email and look at ebay. LOL

Netbooks don't generally have cd/dvd drives but an external one can be hooked up. I did another trick where I used a program to make an 'image' of a CD then put it on a flash drive and loaded onto my netbook that way. It worked for some programs but my favorite sudoku game had a minimum screen size and wouldn't load. A mini-laptop would offer more power and more options later for homework. I ended up trading my netbook for DD's laptop. the laptop isn't really portable because the power cord port is really loose so if you breathe on it wrong it unplugs itself and I needed a larger screen. But I still only use it for surfing, pogo, e-books, etc.
She is fine with doing all of her online stuff on the netbook...she's 21 and doesn't need anything more than that. Kristi |

I have an external DVD drive already but I'm thinking I'm just going to get her a laptop...even the cheapest dell laptop I think would be better than the netbook. She's starting high school (knock on wood lol) in the fall so it's something she can grow with a little I think
Thanks for the input!

My 18y/o has a Dell netbook and I am able to scrap on it just fine. Its a little small but I made this layout on it(so you know if she got into any type of graphic design class in school):
![]() She uses it for reports and such. We use a 1 gigabyte USB thumb drive for transferring files back and forth. She also has an external DVD drive for it but does not use it a whole lot. It works well for internet too. She also likes the size and the weight of it. It does not add alot of bulk to her backpack. |

My husband uses a Netbook and loves it. He can do everything he needs to on it: word processing and Internet. I would go crazy if I had to work on that itty bitty screen, though.

If you do go with a netbook, don't get the Eee PC, I've had nothing but problems and customer service sucks :-(
I've heard great things about the Dell and Acer ones though. |

My 14 yr dd has an netbook - ok it was really meant for my little one to play on but she took it over and loves it. We have a wireless printer so she can print anything she needs for school. She does use our desktop though when she needs to do graphics or something with a bigger screen.

We have a netbook and while it's convenient for travel, I hate working on it. The screen is too small and they keyboard sucks.
