Above Fridge Storage

Today, we're getting a new fridge. Just an old-school white, side by side fridge (BUT IT HAS ICE AND WATER!!!), and I've always stored junk on top - the George Foreman Grill, the Tardis cookie jar, assorted storage pieces, but I'd love to do something a little more visually appealing up there, whilst still being completely functional for additional storage.

Do you have any great ideas?

Our area above the fridge is completely open - no cabinets or any such thing.
