Some of you have seen a post or two on facebook. This is hard. Sigh.
Jeff (my husband for those who don't know)... he's been sick since october. Respiratory stuff. They kept telling him he had bronchitis and he has been on about 6 diff antibiotics. Sunday morning when he woke up he was coughing up mucus... and it had blood in it. We ended up in the ER they did an xray and more antibiotics and sent us home. Wednesday I was at work.. I got a text from him about 11 that said he was coughing up blood.. no mucus.. just straight blood. I came home and we went back to the ER. They finally did a CT scan on him. That CT scan found a mass in his lower left lung. It is squeezing his airway shut, he has about 25% lung function at this point. We were immediately referred to a pulmonary doctor and we saw him yesterday. This morning, they did a scope on him to check out the mass. He told us that we would know today if the mass was abnormal. Unfortunately, the mass is abnormal. Jeff has cancer. Tuesday morning we will find out what type of cancer it is and what stage and what our treatment plan is. The pulmonary doctor said he is fairly positive it is nonsmall cell cancer and since Laura and Meg have forbid me from googling anything, I called my dad and asked him and he said that was very good. Best kind of cancer to be dealing with. So there is that. They are hopeful that they can remove the mass via surgery, to where he will be cured. There is also the possibility that they cannot do surgery and we will have to do chemo/radiation. I'm REALLY hoping for the surgery. Please.. keep us in your thoughts and prayers. it's going to be an awfully long weekend and a long day monday. I'll update after I know something on Tuesday. Thanks everyone. ![]()
