Default Kindle Fire Help!

LOL! Ok, we got Keira the new 6" Kindle Fire HD for Christmas, I decided to start playing with it today so I can get all the apps, settings ready to go for Christmas.

I need to know a couple things.

How do I buy apps in the free time thing? Do I have to buy them in the regular tablet section and then they'll show up in free time?

Also, Anyone have the Unlimited free time subscription? How does that work exactly? Will the apps still be in free time if I decide not to renew the subscription?

I'm googling all of this too, but any first hand knowledge would be great.

We have the Kindle Fire that we got last Christmas. I bet Keira will love it!

You'll need to purchase apps outside of Freetime, and then from inside Freetime, you can set up which apps show up in there. We have Freetime for Chloe with just her apps so that she can't accidentally click on something and purchase it.

The one downside of Freetime (unless they've changed it) is that you can't authorize in app purchases in there. For example, Chloe really liked this freebie game that we played, so I was going to splurge and buy the full version. Well, the full version is considered an in-app purchase, so it doesn't work in freetime. So far, the only way I've found for her to get to play it is to let her do it outside of freetime which means I turn off all the wi-fi and make my parental control passwords are set so that she can't get to things she isn't supposed to.

We didn't do the unlimited for her because she doesn't play it enough to need it. We have plenty of shows for her to watch through Prime & Netflix as well as the apps I've picked up, so we didn't really see the need. Maybe when she's older.

You know, your post made me go read up on Freetime again. I didn't realize that the new kid models actually came with a year of Freetime Unlimited... that's awesome! So, I'm not sure that my previous answer really answered your questions at all because IDK how all the app stuff works differently with the unlimited version.

I was looking though, and it looks like as prime members, it's just $2.99 a month for Unlimited... maybe I'll try that for Chloe to see how it goes. I thought it was much more expensive than that.

We love FreeTime, but mostly as a timer that we don't have to set every day. I'm sure we don't use it to the max, but our kids are still young so screen time is best limited.

We had Freetime Unlimited, but decided not to renew it because the kids were CONSTANTLY taking up all of the storage on the Kindle with it. (Mind you I had 3 playing it on a Kindle that I have to share with John as well, lol) But if you don't renew it you lose all of your non-purchased apps.

I didn't get the kid one, but I got the 6 HD. It came with a month trial, but we're prime members, I think we'll keep it.

Now I'm just waiting for Cooper to start saying he wants one too.
