Hey ladies....So we are allowing my 14 year old son to take his "girlfriend" to their very first home coming dance at school on the 23rd. Do you think he should wear a tux to this dance or just a suit and tie?
Thanks ladies.

Not sure about your area-but Homecoming is not nearly as formal here-the boys don't even wear a suit. They wear a shirt and tie-if they have a date they usually try and match up with the girl.
So I would say-No to a tux. Save that for Prom, which around here is a very formal occasion!

no tux vote for me either. most of the kids here don't even wear ties.

Where I live, homecoming is a much less formal event than prom. Our kids usually just wear nice pants and a tie (if they even wear a tie).

None of my kids are that old yet but when I was in school (late 80's - early 90's) we only wore shirts and ties to homecoming. Maybe a sweater over it and very rarely a blazer. So I vote no tux...but just have him ask his friends what they are gonna do!!!

in my area Homecoming isn't very formal, girls dress up pretty but the boys typically wear a button-down shirt without a tie and Docker-style pants. Some guys even go more casual and wear a polo shirt. UNLESS your son is part of the Homecoming royalty and then he'd have to dress up.

Definitely no tux and no suit. Dockers, button down shirt and possibly a tie.

Thanks ladies....I don't think any of his friends are even going....And this will be his VERY first dance. And honestly I never really went to any of my high school dances so I have no clue. Makes things easier on me though he can just wear his old Band attire

Both prom and homecoming here were HUGE deals. Held in expensive ballrooms at Hard Rock Hotel (dont get me started on that cause it really ticked me off). So some guys did rent tuxes but it was allowed for both occasions to just have a suit on. The only thing they would not allow was for the girls and guys to wear cowboy boots.

LOL Cowboy boots and a tux...Wow that seems so foreign to me....I guess if they were black books it would be ok...but why would you want to wear cowboy boots with a tux anyway!??!

I say, look at where they're holding it, that should give you a good idea of to tux or not. At all my homecoming dances it was half/half with tuxes. My brother and husband never wore tuxes to them, but I know plenty of guys who did.

ummm that was not just for the guys LOL. My daughter and he friends are all in FFA(future farmers of america) and wear cowboy boots with EVERYTHING. One of her friends went out and bought a pair of boots which cost over 300 dollars just to wear to prom.

yes yes it is...my daughter many times tried to leave the house with her cowboy boots and a mini skirt to which I told her uh-uh get in here and put on a pair of jeans or something a little more appropriate. She has informed me when she gets married she will be wearing boots under her wedding dress so dont get me started.

Tuxes are worn for prom only here. Homecoming is just shirt, tie, and dress pants for boys and girls in short dresses.

Homecoming here... well lets just say if you're wearing jeans & a plain ol' shirt, you're good to go & dressed with the best. The only 'dressing up' that gets done is the girls who are part of the royalty court &/or guys if they don't play football. But as soon as the crowing is over, changed back into 'normal' clothes.
As for the boots... I ♥ mine & would wear them with anything. My DD is 3 & she wears hers with everything, dresses, shorts, pants, swimsuit, you name it. My hubby didn't wear a tux or tie for our wedding, but did polish up his logging boots. My girls' wore jean skirts & flip flops, the guys wore blue wranglers, boots & white button ups. I wore flip flops.

my husband also wore black boots for our wedding. asking him to wear dress shoes would have been something totally foreign to him.
