Today, we're getting a new fridge. Just an old-school white, side by side fridge (BUT IT HAS ICE AND WATER!!!), and I've always stored junk on top - the George Foreman Grill, the Tardis cookie jar, assorted storage pieces, but I'd love to do something a little more visually appealing up there, whilst still being completely functional for additional storage.
Do you have any great ideas? Our area above the fridge is completely open - no cabinets or any such thing. |

You could go to Home Depot and buy a shelf and put it in above the fridge. Thats what we plan on doing instead of cabinets. Then just paint/stain to match your kitchen cabinets, And they sell lots of cute baskets to store stuff if you have small things to store as well

I like Jessica's idea of shelves & a basket. The stuff over the fridge has always been an issue for me . . . in our kitchen remodel, I'm having hubby build me a cabinet to solve the problem :-)

I have no advice design-wise. I just love that you have a Tardis cookie jar.

We have a cabinet over top of our fridge, but since our fridge is like 6 1/2 feet tall, we store stuff that we hardly ever use up there. And the fridge comes out about a foot farther from the wall than the cabinet, so we have junk sitting on top of the fridge anyway. It drives me nuts, but we can't fit that crap anywhere else- mostly large cereal boxes. It's always bugged me but I've learned to just not look up there- hence why those cereals are always stale or outdated! lol

hmmm great question! We're trying to declutter and that's what's left in our kitchen! I think a couple baskets would be cute, but I'd love more ideas! I wonder if pinterest has any...

I'm no help we have cabinets now but before I kept cookbooks and an ivy decoration up there..just be prepared to dust whatever you decide to store on top A LOT b/c it gets dusty up there!

you could do something like this on your own w/out it being built in..a wine rack and maybe a shelf if you have the room

thanks to this thread, I started reorganizing our pantry (fridge/clutter...kitchen... pantry... that's how my mind works) and I think I'll do baskets on the fridge, so now I want to go get some!

Yeah - I know how dusty it gets. I didn't bother to dust mine for awhile, forgot to do it today, and was embarrassed when the delivery guys were taking it out and took their hands off the top to wipe them off LOL.
A single shelf won't work because this thing is deep, and I'd never be able to reach it, but that built in might work because it wouldn't necessarily have to match the cabinets. Just enough room for my Tardis ![]() |

We have a basket filled with odds and ends (an apron, a few large tupperware lids, etc), a radio that DH likes to listen to in the kitchen, and some things that need to be out of the kids' reach (like the dishwasher detergent).

I love those crates!
I'm with Fee, though. 3" gap and still it's full of worthless crap. |

thread hijack- you have a tardis cookie jar? i'm jealous. /end hijack
i have two big plastic bowls on top of my fridge in my apartment. one is for bread and the other is for fruit that doesn't go in the fridge. i love those bins, though. we have a cabinet over the fridge, but it's only half the depth of the fridge. so the other half is open and is where i have the bowls. |

I'd do something like the crates, or maybe shelving and use it to store infrequently used items and then use baskets in from for items you need easy access to.

All kinds of ideas!
![]() ![]() ![]() These are cool wall shelves for $15 if you have wall space behind the fridge: ![]() Ikea also has wall cabinet. Target might have some cool stuff too.
