My DH has always had to spell both of his names. And the last name is a LONG german one. Nobody (except germans) can get it. So when we named our son...we picked a SHORT four letter name!! Hopefully he won't have to spell that much!

Oh my gosh - us too!! With a 12 letter last name, that was DH's requirement for J's name... it had to the common spelling and short! And we STILL have to spell out Jacob - even if I say, "Jacob, common spelling"... I get the same for Rebecca... how many times have I seen Rebbeckah in my lifetime... geez!

My maiden name was Snow. Like the frozen white stuff that falls from the sky sometimes. And you would not BELIEVE the number of people that asked me how to spell it. Um, I don't know...S-N-O-U-G-H? S-N-E-A-U-X?
