Default Anybody ever try Accupuncture??

So I'm due on Saturday, and am extremely uncomfortable. I thought that by now I'd be holding my itsy bitsy baby, but apparently not, lol. And I don't think it's going to be very itsy bitsy after all, haha!

Anyways, I've been seeing a chiropractor throughout my entire pregnancy for my crazy back pain, and he also does accupuncture. He told me at my appt last week that if I wanted, to call the office and he'd squeeze me in to do a bit of accupuncture for me. Just a trigger spot in my hands (between thumb & forefinger). It won't kick-start labor, but it will help my body relax, which sometimes can help the labor process begin.

I'm thinking of calling, but I'm a little nervous. I'm not a huge fan of needles, not sure if sitting there for 10 minutes with needles sticking out of my hands sounds reasonable or not, haha! And does it hurt? I know it's not a big deal - I mean, I'm about to go into LABOR... a needle is not going to hurt like labor will, but yet, I still wonder, lol!!

Accupuncture can be scary, but no it doesn't hurt badly as we always imagine. Yes you'll feel a bit of pain when he inserts the needles, but afterwards, it would not be bad.
Remember that accupuncture is a slow-motion 'medication' meaning, it usually takes sometimes for you to see/feel the effects of it

It can be relaxing if you take your mind off the pain

I do!!!! It doesn't hurt. I promise. I have used it for everything from pains, allergies, infertility and energy boost. My chiro does it also and I love it. My son gets it done too and doesn't even flinch. There are two types of it though.....there is an electric kind and the needles. We have done both.

I love love acupuncture. The needles don't hurt. You might feel a minor little prick (or a reflex at the point) when it's inserted by then nothing. I'm not sure I would just sit there and look at my hand for 10 minutes though...your mind could get all worked up. If you could lay down and listen to some calm soothing music at the same time, then you'll be good. If you don't think the office has something like that, I would bring an i-pod or something with you.

I've visited several different types of acupuncturists and offices There are some that are clinical and like white sterile doctor's offices. Not so comforting in my opinion.

The best one I went to was more of a zen healing center: warming colors, water fountains trickling in the background, soothing type of music. They offered my a nice warm cup of fancy tea as soon as I walked in the door. And while I was laying with the needles in (on a massage table) the gal also did energy work. I felt nurtured, loved, and a whole lot better after I left.

If you like your chiropractor I would definately go for it.

I did accupuncture when I was preggo with my first baby and loved it. I was miserable with with back pain and it helped me so much. In fact, I was totally comfortable after treatment. I went in every other week until my baby was born. There was zero pain from the needles and it was nice and relaxing. The half hour went by in what seemed like only minutes. I would do it regularly if I could afford it.

Well, I've never tried it myself - but I'm intrigued by all these recommendations! I'll definitely keep it in mind for future reference . . .

Meanwhile, good luck with your delivery - looking forward to hearing the big announcement soon!!

I'm a lurker mainly but I'll comment on acupuncture!

I absolutely loved, loved, loved acupuncture. I did it for several months after a low back injury and it helped immensely. I was very skeptical and I generally prefer traditional medical remedies, but I found a DO that did it so I felt confident with his medical knowledge.

I would certainly give it a try. It can't hurt (literally, the needles are so, so tiny that it is just a little prick) and may be of some benefit to you. As long as you feel comfortable with your practitioner, I say go for it.

It is an amazing thing. I had problems with my neck and went through physical therapy, meds and chiropractic before trying it. The idea of needles freaked me out. But they don't hurt, and when I would have my treatments, I actually had to have my daughter pick me up and drive me home once afterward because I was so relaxed I didn't think I should be driving myself. Worked wonders.

Good luck!

oh bummer...I was hoping it was baby day!!

as for acupuncture....I LOVE it!!! I had the best acupuncturist in Washington when I lived there. I could go to him for anything and feel SO much better. It's very addicting too...I love the feeling going on in my body...feeling the energy. I would like to find someone here in SoCal that I like.

Don't be afraid of the needles. You don't even feel them like that.
