I've been thinking a lot lately about what's worked for me in the past (and what hasn't) and trying to decide what my photo/scrap goals are for next year.
What I did in 2011 I tried P365 this year and realized that I just didn't enjoy it very much. I made a month's worth of pages, but just wasn't sure that I wanted to print out an entire album of these weekly pages, especially since so many of the photos could be incorporated into my regular pages. What I did like about P365 is that it got me taking pictures of all sorts of things - and I've kept that up even though I didn't stick with the project. I signed up for a bunch of photo and scrap classes this year and made it through some of them. I picked up a bunch of workshops at BPC when they had their 50% off sale and haven't even had a chance to look at them yet. I also purchased a lot of kits that I haven't used yet. Looking forward to 2012 Noticing a trend? I do. I think my primary goal for 2012 is going to be to follow through with the stuff that I started and didn't finish in 2011, although there are a couple of new things that I'd like to try. New 52 - I like the concept of trying something new every week. I'm not sure if this is something I'll photograph or scrap every week, but I'll try to do 52 new things and at least make a summary page at the end of the year. 120 - This was inspired by a project that someone mentioned on The DigiShow. I don't remember whose idea it was originally, but it was mentioned about a project 6x12 where the person was going to take a photo of their entire family once a month. I really like that idea - especially since we typically only take one or two family photos a year. I want to expand it a bit, though, to make sure that I get photos of me & my hubby and one good photo of each of us individually each month. So... 4x12 (family) + 2x12 (me and hubby) + 1x12 + 1x12 + 1x12 + 1x12 (individuals) =10x12 or 120. No particular goals for scrapping these photos as a project, I'll just use them on my regular layouts. I just want to try to take more photos of our family and us as a couple. Monthly Roundup - I really like the idea of these monthly roundups that Katie Nelson does. I think I'm going to try doing something similar. Definitely for me and I may try to adapt it for my kids, too. Again, I'm not sure if it's something I'll scrapbook on a monthly basis, but I'd love having the record of those things that we did/liked every month. Besides those new things, I want to continue/finish projects that I started in 2011: I took Stacy Julian's 'Finding Photo Freedom' class and want to get back into the habit of working with my photos several times a week - keeping up with tagging my new photos as well as continuing to go through my older ones. SSD Portfolio - I started the year strong doing the portfolio, but just kind of petered out. I've been looking back at my portfolio layouts and I love them, so I really want to get back into doing them. Not so much for the discount, although that's nice, but because I've made some pages that I love that I wouldn't have made without it. Classes - I want to work through all the classes I purchased in 2011 and either didn't finish or haven't looked at yet. The classes are aimed at improving both my photography and scrapping skills. The end result - pages I love even more than the ones I make now! Scrap supplies - I really want to use the supplies I have in my stash, many of which I haven't used at all. My ultimate goal is to use each kit once for each dollar I paid for it, but I'd be happy if I end 2012 with half as many (or even 2/3 as many) kits that I haven't even used once. I think I have 131 unused kits now (after GGG), so it will take a lot of scrapping to reach that goal, especially since I won't be able to resist buying new supplies, too. I'm trying to keep my goals pretty easy for next year because most of all I just want to enjoy this hobby. I think I'm right on the border of "just enough" and "too much". So, at the risk of hearing something else that I just have to do... What about you? What are your photo/scrap goals for 2012? What worked for you (or not) this year and what do you want to do next year? Last edited by KateD; 12-17-2011 at 01:58 PM. Reason: amended my 96 project to 120 - forgot individual pics of me & hubby |

My main goal is to focus on journalling. I have lots of LO's with pictures and nifty supplies. What I really want to make sure is that I capture the details, feelings, and circumstances around the event/activity. Last year I took Shimelle's "True Stories" class. I'm going to dig out all the material and use that as a starting point!
Then for each month, I'm going to do a monthly round-up type LO's or P12 for my son.

My main goal for 2012 is to do 365 and do a weekly layout with my 365 pics, kind of Project Life style. I'm actually pretty excited about it, and I'm planning on using the time that SSD is down after Christmas to work on some layouts that I can just plug pictures and journaling into later.
And, I want to be better about printing my layouts and getting them into albums so my kids can enjoy them.

I never set goals relating to scrapping, however, I do hope to scan all of my wedding photos and make an album. In general, I just want to make pages I'm proud to show off

Take more pictures. I dont know if having an iPhone has become a disadvantage of sorts because it has made me so lazy to pick up my camera.
And keep up with my 4x12 family pictures - like what Tara Whitney featured in her blog ![]() |

I'd like to finish (um, start?) my son's baby book... he is turning TWENTY in about 2 weeks and I still don't have it done. And it's WHY I even started scrapbooking. Sooo embarrassing!

Most importantly I just want to enjoy myself. I do not like to set goals for myself in my free time; my work is heavily deadline-oriented, so I'm very relaxed about things I do for hobby.
In 2011 I finished a vacation photo book, and in 2012 I'd like to finish another one. But I'm in no hurry with it. I'd love to finish some compilations in the making and do scrappy covers for them, but again, no hurry. Maybe I'd like to print some photo books with some series of LOs, let's see what happens. What I'd like to do is to improve my PS skills yet more; I love how scrapping has helped me with this.

My one big thing besides actually trying to scrap our pages is to recreate my recipe book - from the tin that I keep them in now to a photo album format - and 'scrap' those family favorites that are just scribbled on things now.

I don't do a lot of scrapelated goal setting either. Here are my few goals:
1. Spend more time organizing my photos and supplies. I have a great system in place, but as my scrap time has declined this year I've wanted to spend it scrapping rather than organizing. I need to balance them better. 2. Finish the 2 classes I've bought during sales and not done, one on photo editing and the other on shadowing. 3. Get some of my older photos (1-3 years ago) scrapped and declare those albums finished. 4. Keep doing the Portfolios.

![]() I set all my scrapbooking related goals back in April as part of my 5th Scrap-i-versary celebration (There's a blog post about my goals here) so I'm not planning to set any new specific goals just yet. But the two things I'd like to focus on for 2012 are 1) scrapbooking more consistently and 2) telling a better balance of stories. I've gotten into the habit of choosing stories to go with kits because of CT stuff but I want to make sure I'm making time for other important stories as well. Oh and for anyone that might be interested, there's a great Goals workshop starting in January over at Simplify101 called "How to achieve your goals and create a life you love." It's taught by Aby Garvey who was one of the authors of The Organized & Inspired Scrapbooker book. I've taken the class the last few years and will be doing it again this year. Love that it gets me started off on the right goalelated foot every year, haha. Anyway, I don't get any perks or anything for promoting the class. I'm just a happy customer over there. ![]() Last edited by Nettio; 12-17-2011 at 01:10 PM. |

![]() The new 52 is more about doing new things rather than scrapping or photography. I would like to document them in some way, but not anything overwhelming like trying to blog or scrap each one. The monthly roundup shouldn't be too taxing, once I decide what I want to record each month. And, frankly, the list will probably look very similar to Katie's. None of the classes I signed up for are very intensive, but should help me to make more meaningful pages. And spending 15 minutes 4-5 times a week to work with my photos should be very manageable. Honestly, I don't think I could keep up with everything that you do, Lynette! I guess it's all a matter of perspective ![]() |
