Lego ??
Okay, ladies, my son is obsessed with Legos and has been since he was very little. He builds the most amazing things. But he likes the big legos, not the tiny ones. What are the big ones called? Are they "duplo"? I'm thinking of ordering some online, but can't really tell if they're the big ones or not, and I made the mistake last year of getting a huge box of the tiny ones. Thanks!
eta: okay, these, are they big or small?

That first box is small..I ordered them when they were one of amazon's lightening deals and didn't realize they were small..so I'm still not sure if he's getting them or not b/c of Ella..I don't want her to get them in her mouth. I'm not so sure about the other 2 sets.

Those are not duplo - they are regular legos. And probably a good mix of just general bricks for him to build with on his own. We are a big lego family too! Love them.
ETA: whoops - just realized you *want* duplos, not legos. Um so just ignore my last sentence, but yeah those are all legos, NOT duplos.

I am guessing soley based on the # of legos.. that they're the small ones..
because this one.. is big ones and it's the same price there's only 71 http://shop.lego.com/ByAge/Product.a...00002&d=100001

yep, the big kind are called duplo. They are great and they build with the small legos too (once he is old enough for small ones.)
Here is the Walmart selection. Look for them to say Lego DUPLO in the title and you will be safe! |

we have Mega Bloks, which come in the really big blocks, the medium sized blocks, and small blocks now - Duplos, which are medium sized blocks, and Legos, which are small ones. With three boys ranging in age from 14 to 4, we've been through them all. I have phased out most of the big chunky Mega Bloks that they had when they were babies, and mostly have the medium sized and small sized ones now.

another way to figure out if they are regular lego or duplo lego is to look at the age range on them. If it says anything over 4+ years then it is regular lego. If it says ages 1 1/2 or 2 years old as the starting age then it is duplo lego. Hope that helps!

He is 6, but still prefers the big ones because he can build bigger things with them.
Thanks for all the help ladies!

You know Kresta, it may be a great time to introduce the smaller, regular Lego. The Lego City range had lots of fab mini packs for specifically building dumper trucks, police cars - you name it. Being 6, he will want to 'graduate' to Lego very, very soon as the range of themed sets is huge.
Just thought I'd say that before I also say that it is the Duplo range he currently prefers BTW, have you got him a flat Duplo base so he can build on and up? ...its very useful. |

Lego has out an "advent calendar" that gives a mini set (i.e. people or small set) each day leading up to Christmas.
Speaking from a family of boys...buying Legos here for 20 years...DUPLO is the large blocks! We have had some problem with the Mega Blocks in the past working with the Lego ones...not always but we gave up buying that brand because the boys got frustrated with them. They didn't always click together interchangeably as well as all the Legos did. You might give him a separate place to store and play with the smaller bricks away from younger siblings.

The Duplo and the smaller blocks work together, too.
