Default Kindle Question

I promise I won't bore you all with questions...but I figured it was faster to ask in here than try to find the forum or area in amazon or on the kindle board to get it.

I found the web browser, and when I first launched it - saw a great of bookmarked sites, tried out FB. Now..when I try to launch the browser again, it just goes straight to FB. Does anyone know how to get to the bookmark page? And can I create my own bookmarks to use?

I'm on a Kindle3/keyboard.

Try opening the browser, then hitting menu. it should give you the option to go to bookmarks or bookmark this page, it at least does on the K2i.

oh, and I learned a ton at ireaderreview.com, they post tons of kindle tips and such. thats how I found out how to do screen shots and refreshes, lol

OH! Thanks, Jen! I can even bookmark pages this way! Phew!

Kim - I don't have a smartphone, so that was one thing about the Kindle I wanted to be able to do - browse the most basic of pages for me when we're out all day - just to be able to check in and grab business mail, etc.

so you got the 3G Keyboard? Even though I preordered the Touch wifi, I keep thinking about the 3G version.

This is making me wish my kindle 2 would break or something, lol, so I would have an excuse to get one of these new kindles, haha! I've had mine for 2 years and it's working great. I don't feel like I can justify getting a new kindle if the one I have works great, kwim? lol.

These new kindles sound so cool! I'm dying to get my hands on a kindle fire to see what it's like! Don't they ship in like 2 weeks?

Andrea, I have the K2 international and browser is under experimental

Fire ships on the 15th, I believe, and touch ships the 21st.

All these kindle threads are just making me SO anxious for my Kindle Touch that I pre-ordered. It can't come soon enough!

I preordered the Touch Wi-fi, too. The free 3G on the other Touch is only for accessing the kindle store and Wikipedia. Other web surfing and even library downloads are only available when the 3G version is connected via wi-fi. From the Touch 3G's info page:

Quote:
Kindle Touch 3G's experimental web browser is based on WebKit. It's easy to find the information you're looking for right from your Kindle Touch 3G. Kindle Touch 3G enables you to connect to the Kindle Store and access Wikipedia - all over 3G or Wi-Fi. Experimental web browsing on other websites is only available over Wi-Fi.

thanks Rachel for mentioning that! I knew there was some reason I thought the 3G wasn't a good choice for me, but I couldn't remember why.

This got me concerned. The only thing I want from my future Kindle is the ability to read books and go to Kindle store. Don't tell me all currently available models have a full browser... I'm enough addicted already, but one thing that is sure is that once I switch off the computer, I'm offline. If my reading device had "real" internet, I would be too tempted.

So - are there still models out there that make browsing so uncomfortable that it discourages you? Those would be ones for me. Thanks.

Adrianka, the browser is fairly clunky, at least on the model I have. It's not something I really like using, usually I only use it to try and get to an authors website to search a book order, etc.

Adrianka - the web browsing ability on the Kindle is definitely NOT something that's going to keep you surfing. It's cumbersome to say the least. It's just there as a little feature - helps me for when I'm out and about since I don't have a smartphone to check in with my business email and here. It's not something to spend time on because it's just not easy to use that way. You don't have to worry LOL

That's great news, thanks for your answer. :-) I have a "dumbphone" (I refuse having a smartphone for obvious reasons) with very cumbersome browsing features and have never been tempted. Prevention at its best. :-)

Thanks, Jen. I'm relieved. Clunky is my friend. :-)))
