Default Sooooo when you're scrapping a layout

do you wait until it's finished to save?

I've been scrapping a long time and I always save multiple times ( like every 10-15 minutes ) during the process. Every few weeks I see a post or thread where someone loses a layout because it wasn't saved and it seems so foreign to me. It only takes a few seconds, for me it's just habit, but now I'm totally curious if I'm just OCD or have a crazy "process".

So what's your process?

Yes and no. If I feel the layout is coming along quickly, I'll just keep scrapping and save it at the end. If it's a layout with tons of layers, like a Cindy template that's taking me longer to do, then I'll save as I go.

I save at the end... however, it takes me about 20 min to do a layout... if it isn't coming together for me or I'm going to finish it tomorrow, I'll save it.

95% of the time I save at the end. I've been burned once or twice but that's it. If I have to leave my computer for more than 5 or 10 minutes then I always save.

This is so foreign to me! It takes me 20 minutes just to pick up paper!

Yes, I do save my LO as I go.

When I'm sure a page is "going somewhere", I save it. Then I save every 10 minutes or so until I'm done.

I save constantly. My first save is after I drag the pictures onto the blank canvas. Then as I add papers and stuff, I save. If I go to find another product, I save first. I wander away from the computer a lot and I just want to make sure it's saved before someone "accidentally" closes it without saving. (And by someone, I mean me. )

I save every few minutes. But even so, I've had a few times when a layout file got corrupt when a computer crashed and it wouldn't open afterward.

I rarely do a layout in one sitting, so I definitely save several times during the creation of a page.

Last night, I was working on something and had been working uninterrupted for a while (that hardly ever happens). The layout was almost finished, and I hit Cmd S, thinking I had already saved at least once. But, it prompted me for a file name, and I was shocked.

I've lost layouts from not saving a couple of times, but not very often because I do save as I go. Also, I love Photoshop's Auto-Save feature that rescues your file in case Photoshop freezes up or crashes. That's been a blessing a few times too.

I'm terrible - the only time I save is if I'm mid-layout and I have to walk away (go to bed, go to work, feed my family, etc). I really wish I could get myself in the saving habit!

Also, I am envious of those scrapping pages in 20 minutes!! I'm pokey over here - which is another reason I should make saving a habit!

Yep, I'm totally with you. About spending more than 20 minutes on layouts and saving a lot. I think in my head it goes like this... when I get a part done the way I want it, I hit save and move on to the next part

not unless I have to walk away. But i'm a pretty speedy scrapper, I'm usually done in about an hour.

and I love PHotoshop Auto Save. it's saved my hide a few times when the power has gone out.

I save when I'm completely finished with a layout, and yes, that means I've gotten burned more than once. You'd think I'd learn!

I'm the exact same way...I don't want PSE crashing on me if I have a ton of layers. That just makes me !!!

It depends...If I am doing a layout in one sitting then I usually save at the end. If I have to get up at any point, then I save as I go. I usually forget to go back and delete the files so then I have to go searching for layered files...that is the main reason why I don't save all the time.

I save when I've got everything in place. Then I shadow and save again. I never think about saving when I'm in the middle of the process, though. Just the double save at the end.

Well, I normally don't have it planned. Sometimes I open PS in the "let's see what happens" mood. If something happens, I tend to get so immersed that I forget that I am actually still working with the Untitled-1.psd unsaved file. And no, I don't learn. It does happen I save it at the beginning with an actual name, too. And remember to save as I work. Sometimes. :-)

Sometimes I can't sit for long and I have not ever spent under 30 minutes on page, so I have to save as I go. I have walked away and actually forgotten I was doing something on the computer. Every now and then, this little girl that lives here likes to come and re-arrange elements on my page to her liking, so having a save point is a must for me.

20 minute layouts... for me??! maybe in an alternate universe *snort
I'm insanely slooooooow. so I try my best to always remember to save, save, save as I go.
but I do occasionally get swept away/caught up in what I'm doing and completely forget. and inevitably that's when everything comes crashing down and I lose it all. in a perfect world I'd save every 5 minutes.

yes i have a horrible habit of waiting until it's finished to save and have lost a few pages over the years because of it, but i never learn!! I hate coming back to a page if it's not finished so it just never occurs to me that i should save it mid scrapping

The fastest I ever have finished a layout is an hour and that prior to having my now two month old. Now it can take me a whole day in between taking care of my four year old and two month old boys. I usually save after I have all my elements placed. I have this weird process where I do my elements, then pictures, then papers, and then title if I even have a title.

I save the page right away (date and name of kit, i.e. 20140111_KitName) ... and then I hit ctrl-s every few minutes. I'm not a quick scrapper ... I don't think I've ever finished a page in less than 30 minutes and usually it's well over an hour over a period of a day or two.

It depends. I save if I have to get up... and I save it as "WorkingCopy:" I save my credits in the file title, so I wait to really save it finally when I'm done... but for daily, working copy is my fall back. I have learned to save when I finish the basics to the layout, before I add journaling, title and do all the shadow work.

There've been a few times when I'm just so excited to start and finish a layout that I realize I've forgotten to save until I actually do. But most times I save throughout the duration of scrapping a layout.

It's been years since I've scrapped without autosave. I never think about saving at all.

With my old computer, frequent saving was a must, because all too often I'd lose a page simply due to my computer shutting down. In 2012, I got a new computer, and sweet thing is, it usually recovers my work for me in the rare rare case that it gets stuck! So, now I've regressed again to only start saving toward the end. I usually begin saving around the time when I begin merging layers (papers and photos).
