Default Noooooo!

My macbook pro has been so good since I got it 4 years ago and it's now crying out for a new battery. I got a quote from Apple on a new battery and replacement and they want $470!! I almost might as well just exchange the one I have now add the $470 and get a brand new macbook. I would have to add on quite a few more $$$ to get one though, but I was looking at the new macbook air and find I do miss the portability of the air. While the Pro is powerful and all, it's heavy and not very good for travelling.
I also get a little $$ from work to buy whatever I want for work, but I'd still have to put in quite a bit myself either way.

So, if you had to choose and could find the money. Would you go with air or pro? It's my scrapping mac so I need it to function for PS CC.

I had to get a new battery last year for my 2013 MacbookPro... I feel your pain. My hubby tells me that I should have a desktop because I bring my laptop to it's knees. haha. I've always been in the camp of getting the best machine you can afford when you purchase... and I know I'd get another MacPro when I upgrade (which I should have already, but hubby needs an upgrade to the computer in his office... and now my son is using a computer more and more for schooling and he is using my husband's laptop - and he wants his laptop back.) haha.

I got a good tip from the Apple technician I spoke too thoough. If you do upgrade and keep the old one, just take the battery out and use it as a desktop version with the cord plugged in for the kids. And you get a brand new one

I would go with the pro because you get more memory and has a faster processor than the air.

I'm so sorry your computer has gone kaput. Good luck making this decision about what you need to do, moving forward.

I know, they're pretty insane. I was thinking the air might save me a teeny bit and upgrade the inside, but I don't know.

I prefer pro than air somehow, because I like a powerful spec better than the light weight.

I feel your pain. I just got an I Pad Pro and am taking a class to learn how to use it, with the Procreate app, for some of my design work. I've been feeling tied to my desk top and would like a bit more freedom, plus the pencil is awesome. But the price. WOW! Only good thing is it will be tax deductible for me as a business expense.

I'm sorry your battery is dying!
The prices are insane. We have to buy one too for the one starting college. Cause tuition is not expensive enough!
I have a pro. My 2 sons who are computer science majors in college have MacBook pros and my son starting industrial design is getting a pro, too. He needs more than the programmers as far as speed and memory. And my husband......has a PC. :P

Do batteries in all brands of laptops only last a few years? You've got me lovin' my desktop.

Yes, eventually, the battery strength will drop. Some may last longer than other brands, but, at the end, they'll stop functioning.

One thing that helps prolong battery life a lot is to keep your laptop unplugged unless it's being used or needs charging.
(Sorry-this was supposed to be a reply to Lynn's question, but Tapatalk didn't post it that way.)

Definitely stinks! I would get quotes from sources other than Apple. Apple is always going to be the most expensive option when you're not under warranty. I bet you could get it done for less than $150 elsewhere.
