Okay....see I agree with most of you. The sharpness in the pictures in #2 are by far better. However, the ellies in #1 look better. I don't like that the sharpening method I used on #2 softened or muted the colors of my ellies. I just think that #1 looks crisper in regards to the ellies anyway and that is where my eye tends to focus on most layouts is on the composition and arrangement more than the photographs. Now, I do wind up looking at the photos but they are not what I typically notice first.

For #1, I sharpened it with the following:
Amount: 50%
Radius: 1 pixels
Threshold: 0
Ran my size for web action on it, then Saved for Web.

For #2, I ran my Size for Web action then sharpened it with the following:
Amount: 150%
Radius: .3 pixels
Threshold: 0
Then Saved for Web

Do some of you mind sharing how you do your Enhancing?

Just wanted to add that I have always done the method in #1 but, recently read an article that suggested the specs used on #2.

Maybe it should just be a layout by layout basis........possibly sometimes the specs used on #2 would look overall better depending on the ellies and color tones, etc....

Suggestions? comments?

I flatten, resize to 600x600 then
Unsharp mask
Amount: 20%
Radius: 60 pixels
Threshold: 0
Then Saved for Web with 150kb as my image size and it saves it as close to that size as possible automatically

what is in your save for web action? Don't they compress the image? I don't think I'd run the action AND the unsharp mask..might make it oversharp? (obviously it might not i have no idea what's in an action..i made my own using those #'s up there with my resize)

I usually resize down to 600X600 and then I do an unsharp mask with settings of 100,1,1. Sometimes, that is a little too much, and I'll play with those numbers. But, that is usually what I like. After I sharpen, I Save for Web and optimized to file size 150kb.

I resize to 600x600 and change the last setting to Bicubic Sharper (best for reduction). Then I use Save for Web/Devices. I optimize to a file size of 145KB. If I go bigger, the galleries yell at me for my file size.

I generally use the method in #2, but Paislee Press has a free resize for web action that has really nice sharpening... it's a bit softer than the other method. Maybe a good balance?
