What Do YOU Want To See?
I'm looking for ideas for future Hot 4 Hybrid posts this year. I'm feeling a little stuck on what people would like to see. Tutorials? Altered things? Ways to incorporate hybrid into your life more easily? Home Decor?
So help me out! I wanna hear what you're looking for and what's gonna make your skirt fly up Gimme specific projects, or ask me a question that you'd like to see answered. Looking forward to hearing from you guys!

I always like seeing tutorials...but I can't say they'll make my skirt fly up..

I have to agree...basic tutorials are great for me because I can adapt those skills to different projects.

So help us out. What do you want tutorials on? Box making? Card making? Home dec projects? Party items? Right now a lot of our H4H posts are projects with tutorials. So how can we do it better? What are your hybrid goals for 2011? come on..tell us!!!
Aaron: LOL - glad you know you don't wear skirts. *snicker*

Seems like there are a lot of questions on the different tools, so maybe a series that can be linked to that talks about the different tools and how they are used or compares different tools used for the same thing. ie scoring tools or ways to score without a specific tool. Or the differences in papers, I hear about presentation paper but I don't understand what makes it different than card stock or photo paper.

Yes, holiday specific things would be great, especially items to be displayed in the home.

I like hybrid projects for gift giving. I'm going to give the 'birthday book' in this months portfolio to a girlfriend for her birthday! I have a small home, so I don't make home decor.

I'd like to see "boxes" we could cut with our cutters ... in like GSD files and such (I have a Silhouette SD) ... were you asking to buy or provide or just show us things?
Decorative ways to secure notebooks closed that we make ... so they don't come open in our purses or laptop cases!

So glad you asked this Col!
I know we had a lot of questions recently about binding tools. I have a Cinch that I love. Would you guys be interested in a tutorial / product review about that product specifically? I know sometimes I feel a little "iffy" about doing specific product reviews / tutorials because I don't want people to feel like they have to go out and buy that product. My last few H4H blog posts have specifically been to try to motivate people to get those Hybrid Portfolio Challenges done, where I've tried to break down my own project into steps and show that it's really not that difficult to get a large chunk of points. Do you guys find this helpful? Does it actually motivate you to do your own project for this challenge or give you ideas? One thing I think would be helpful is if we do a post that you guys really like or find helpful, let us know - leave some comments on the blog or some positive feedback in here in the forum in some way telling us what you think. I know sometimes I'll do a post that I think is awesome but then there won't be a single comment on it, so I'm always left wondering if anyone really liked it or not. Feedback is always good for us to help us Babes make sure we're giving you guys what you want! (Ummm, don't be mean if you hate something, but we'd like to know if you love something!! LOL). :-) |

I'd certainly like advice on what basic tools I need for hybrid - I am currently ok as I live with my mum who is a paper scrapper but from March I will be away from home so need some tools, inks etc
I really appreciate posts that break down the hybrid challenge that month

I'd like technique/product tutorials within showing your project/card. Like for instance, glitter. How to apply it, which type to buy, etc. You could do that with glitter, adhesive, cutting tools, punches, distressing inks...

Yep, toolselated tutorials would be great, and I love making hybrid for giving too, so more boxes, bags and other gift projects would be awesome! I also love Julie's idea of "how to work with..." such and such technique/element. Glitter for example would be terrific, the only time I used some it fell off way too easily!

This is some great feedback! Thank you!!!
I'm with Jen- it really helps if you leave a comment on the blog to say you stopped by and you like the project or maybe that project gave you an idea of what you'd like to see in the future. I'm all for more holiday items (especially little boxes and such as that's "my thing"). Julie - I love that egg tree and your idea on focusing on a tool. Jen - I have The Cinch...haven't opened it yet. If you have any pointers then please pass those along because I'd hate to make a project and then screw up the binding.

...QUESTION... can the bind it all use the Cinch's round plastic binding ... or can the bind it all use the round plastic binding that say office max binds their notebooks with in the copy area???? Yes I love it when Jen breaks down those steps!! I made 2 (count them 2) Disney keepsake items when Jen showed hers!! ...and I really wasn't into hybrid back in 2009 ... but that project got me into doing them!!

...oh and I don't like to have a lot of things like flowers in vases sitting around ... I like projects that can HOLD things or something like that. I do make desk calendars every year for dh and because someone posted a project with the bind it all calendar holder ... I made one for dh for Christmas. I am more the notebook kind of person ... something I can use up so to speak and not dust.

So would something like house warming gift ideas be good? Or a tutorial for a specific one?

I love boxes too, but I would like to see some that are larger than 2 x 2, so you can put something more substantial in it than 2 or 3 pieces of candy. Gift ideas for hostesses, teachers, etc are always things that stump me. Love the comparison idea with tools.

I'd love to see a "Getting started with Hybrid for under $50" (or whatever reasonably small amount seems appropriate). This could be a post or a series of posts, but assume the reader is starting having never paper scrapped and has no tools/materials.
1) What things should I purchase to get started successfully? 2) What is the best for printing the digital supplies (paper type mostly, but could cover printers)? 3) A couple very simple projects with step-by-step basic techniques (preferably using the supplies you told us about in #1 above). |

What about a twist on the traditional pattern... like what Sara does for Heather's team... for example, she took the pie box and made Christmas Trees favor boxes.

I might be in the minority based on the responses here but I'd love to see more memory keepingelated hybrid projects. Like mini albums that are more than just digi pages printed out. Or unique ideas for incorporating memorabilia besides scanning or just gluing onto a digi page. Basically cool tricks for how I can use hybrid to do things I can't with just digi.

I really love making hybrid layouts, Lynnette. Maybe next month I'll focus on that for my post.

I have no suggestions but wanted to say I LOVE Misty's idea of getting started with hybrid and Lynnette's on hybrid memory-keeping.
I've never paper-scrapped but this year I'd like to try and dabble in super tiny projects (a card? layout? I dunno). The hybrid portfolio challenges are kinda too challenging for me, lol. |

oh... how about nifty ideas for reusing packages to make gifts for others... like strawberry plastic containers for candles and how to decorating them? Or, what I could do with all those coffee sleeves from my Starbuck's addiction...

Oh my...I have a stash of strawberry containers and Starbuck sleeves...what a fun challenge. Let me see what I can come up with! I love reusing containers. I'm always looking at store packaging and trying to figure what I can make out of it. Glad to hear I'm not the only one!

What about maybe making a video tutorial?
The LSS here just starting doing a project of the week and she makes a video tutorial instead of a picture with write up tutorial and I have learned a lot. I tend to be a visual person so seeing somebody fold the paper to make a 3D item or how to get the fine lines of glitter is really helpful. |

I disappear for 5 minutes - and look at the thread I've missed! Fabulous ideas....
I am due to do the H4H post on the very last Wednesday of this month. Making seasonal ideas has been mentioned, with detailed how to's, including tools used. So how about I make it a mini gift idea post - with a Valentine theme as thats the next date on the calendar? I can show a step by step how to make a gift bag using a template, with what tools I used, and then maybe show alternatives like a dressed up paperbag or similar, just to help spark ideas, showing what I used & how. All the ideas & techniques will be totally transferable to Mothers Day, birthdays etc - its just that I'll probably use kits with a lovey-dovey theme I'm also planning a how-to for my post on Heather's blog at the end of the month, but with a teacher/ class mini gift theme ....I think . Thank you so much for replying to this thread of Col's - its such a help. I think maybe we should ask the same thing every 4-6 months just to see what people want as the year progresses. Let me know if my plans for my post appeal, or if you'd prefer something modified. |

My favorite is when you guys do the month's hybrid challenge the first week of the month. That way I know if I can do it that month and have a good idea and example to start with. I also love using things around the house to make into hybrid ideas (like the strawberry container idea), but have no idea how to come up with my own ideas so I love that though.

I competely concur with Lynette and would love some help learn how to do a hybrid layout and other memory keeping.
AND A BIG YES to Misty's idea. My issue is I don't have a printer so I print at walmart and they print on photo paper which makes it all too shiny. BLAH

I love the idea about how to use hybrid tools and what the must haves are. Can I request a mod podge tutorial (or better alternative)? I leave things unsealed or use laminating pockets (if it needs to be kid-proof) because that stuff intimidates me!
Most of my hybrid stuff is gifts for my kids (little laminated books, board books, etc) and cards. I'd like more ideas about projects for kids, like mini albums or fun things that can stand up to preschoolers or toddlers. I don't do seasonal home dec, but I'd be interested in things that can be used year round, like the quick idea Col just typed up about crystal light containers.

Sounds great! Unfortunately (esp. for my mom whose B-day is next week) my printers (yes, both of them) are down. One has decided not to print red anymore, and the other has issues. I did the bday planner and can't print it out!! Ugh! Hopefully I'll either get a new one or get these to work asap.
