Default Organizing Files?

How do you organize your digital scrap goodies? I would really love to be able to create tags for things and be able to search "green paper" and all of my green paper pop up. I tried picasa, but I can't figure out how to upload my embellishments to the program too. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I scrap with Photoshop CS3 but have Photoshop Elements installed on my computer as well for the Organizer alone. It's WONDERFUL!! All my kits are sorted by Designer, Theme and then each individual piece of the kit is tagged by name. It took a while to get it all in there but now I just upload as I go and it's a breeze. So wonderful for finding just that perfect element

I use ACDSee. I know people also use Lightroom for sorting. I have no idea about free programmes of this sort, but someone might point you out in the right direction. I love ACDSee, but I have no idea if you're willing to invest into it (you can download a trial version and see if you like it).

I use Picasa and love it - I'm too cheap to buy a program for organization

Elements are usually PNG files and papers are JPEG files. To get them into Picasa you just need to change what types of files Picasa recognizes.

Open Picasa and go to TOOLS>OPTIONS>FILE TYPES - then check off the types you want to go into Picasa. I do BMP, PNG, and TIFF.

If you have Windows you might like to check out Windows Live Photo Gallery. If it's not on your computer it's a free download. It's faster than Picasa because it just uses Windows Explorer.

I use Windows Photo Gallery, too. It was right there when I started, so I've just stuck with it. I used to to tag every single thing, but I've started to just tag (very detailed) the preview. I mostly kit scrap now, anyway. Tagging everything was getting so overwhelming and this meets my needs fine. I still tag all my photos, though. I want to be able to find them very easily!
