OMG I have a sister?!
Hey all...wow it's been awhile since I posted on here. Working like crazy just stinks; especially when you have no time to scrap. But I digress...
Anyway, I received a really cool surprise yesterday and since I'm not ready to share it with my family I just had to tell someone (or lots of someones). LOL I received an email from my half sister whom I did not even know existed! To make along story short I have never known my biological father. My mom and him were divorced when I was 6 months old and since I just turned 40 that's a long time! So I grew up never knowing anyone from that side of my family and at times it was really tough on me and on my mom. It wasn't cool to be a single mom back in the 70s and it was tough on my mom trying to make ends meet. So needless to say I grew up never wanting to know them. So now here's this person wanting to get to know me and it turns out she lives in Orlando so we are only an hour or less apart. I agreed to email and do the Facebook thing for now and I'll see where it goes. Nothing like this has happened to me before so I'm a little excited and alot nervous. I'll keep you all posted later down the road. Thanks for letting me share! |

that's awesome.....I found out at 17 that my mom had a son and daughter before me that she had to give up for adoption {long story}...then in 1993 my brother did a sibling search and found me and my younger brother and then we found our older sister a couple years later. Funny thing is, they were both only children. Here are all of us together the 1st time we all met in 1995...and since then my sister and I are inseparable {even though we live across the country from each other}...so you might be surprised at how this relationship will go and I am glad you are open to getting to know her....
and this is my sister and I in Vegas for my 40th bday last year! she showed up at the airport as a surprise for my bday with 5 of my best friends! |

How exciting for you! My husband found out at 29 that he was adopted and that his biological Mom wanted to meet him. We ended up with a whole lotta new family members and it's been awesome Have fun getting to know your new half sis!

That's nice that she contacted you!
I have at least two siblings that my Father had with his second wife, but I have never tried to contact them for several reasons I won't go into. If they tried to find me though, I think I'd be happy to meet them. I hope you two have a great time!

I think once the inital surprise and shock passes it'll be easier to accept. It might be a wonderful thing for you to get to know your sister. Like Angie mentioned, it could lead to a special friendship

That's pretty cool, huh?!?!? Wishin' you all the best in your new relationship.
I found out at 32 that my mother had a child a year & half before I was born. I did not take it very well and it really strained the relationship between me and my mom for a year. Now we're close again, which I am very thankful. I met my half sister back in 2000 and then nothing! (I think it was tough on her too.) But just a couple of weeks ago, on Easter Sunday, we reconnected on FB so we're going to take things slow and see how it goes.

What a great story! I have at least three half siblings that most likely don't know I exist. I have never met my biological father, but per my mother, he was had three older children from a previous marriage. I bet at least one of them lives close to me, but I haven't been able to locate them .... and I'm unsure whether or not they would welcome any contact from me ... so needless to say, I find your experience reassuring!
