Write On/Wipe Off stuff...
So I have this project in the works (you'll see it Saturday! hehe
 ) that requires me to make some printed digital pages into Write On/Wipe Off surfaces. What is your experience with this?So far it looks like standard lightweight teacher's lamination and also heavy lamination from the office/copy store will work with a grease pencil and paper towel, and I'm thinking it might work with the special wipe off crayons and dry erase markers too - but I haven't tried those yet. I was hoping that a less expensive method could be used - like placing the print out in a page protector and writing and erasing on that, but so far two types of page protectors (slick and frosted) don't work with the grease pencil that I have. I think I'll get some wipe off crayons and a dry erase marker so I can test those on the page protectors and laminated surfaces. So what else am I not thinking of? What else might work? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

at school what we used to do for the kids was slip pages into a page protector and use a dry erase marker and kleenex would wipe them right off.
Depends on what you're making.. full size page stuff or flashcard type stuff? I have a flashcard thing I used to do at school too.

Dry erase markers and paper towels work wonders, Heather!
Its the easiest option. You can do contact paper in the same way as the lamination, but it's a bit of a pain, honestly. I can get lamination done, with the heavy duty stuff, for .25/linear foot. You kind of have to shop around for those prices.

Dry Erase Markers work GREAT with laminated pages and page protectors - I use them all the time for school.

Thanks girls! My oldest son is on Spring Break this week - so we took it upon ourselves to research and experiment this today! Our results are -
Write On/Wipe Off Crayons - work on lamination and slick page protectors - smudge on the frosted/textured ones. Dry Erase Markers - work on lamination and both types of page protectors. General's Scribe-All All-Surface Pencil - works on lamination and slick page protectors - smudges badly on textured page protectors. They all wipe off well with paper towel and even faster with a baby wipe! China Markers (grease pencil) smudge on all surfaces we tried. I do suggest you try your specific combo before getting too deep into a project though as some stuff did seem to write better and erase better in different combos.

Sheet protectors "move" since they are loose and figured they would frustrate the kids more than anything if trying to write or erase on them. I bought a package of the heat sealing laminate from Office Depot...made projects and brought them back in for them to seal them (they just had me keep my receipt to show I bought it there...but that was several years ago). It was excellent! It was a calendar that I added magnets to the back and put on the frig. I used PERMANENT Sharpie markers if it was something that repeated every week at that time (i.e. bowling or Scouts), and used dry erase for things I would erase at the end of that month or week (I had made both a weekly calendar and a monthly). If you want to ERASE the Sharpie...you get a WHITE eraser...something in it will erase the Sharpie from the calendar. I have also used the laminate back in the Office Max production area for projects...it seems to CURL as it didn't seem to be as "strong" as the single sheets I bought in a box. I do have a Xyron (only 5" wide) that has a laminate cartridge...I haven't tried a dry erase project with it yet. ...but if you want me to try it...just reply and I'll make up a quick sample. Are you going to make something fun for us homeschooling moms?

I LOVE the magic eraser!
Also Vis-a-vis markers aren't bad to use, erase with a wet paper towel and you're done. I have SO many in my classroom and have used them again and again on laminated stuff without any problem. This is also good for people who have little ones that will just use their finger to erase things from dry erase boards! Though I really shouldn't help since you are single-handedly making me broke Heather!

I hope you give us more than a week if you give us a hybrid challenge though...I'm going to go order my printer now...and it will prob take a week or more to arrive (don't want to pay humongous shipping charge)...at least I hope they have it in stock!

Ok you got my tail moving...I got my printer ordered!! Not sure WHEN it will be delivered though...haven't gotten the e-mail confirmation yet...and I bought a 4 year warranty so I know I won't have to buy another printer for 4 years!

I didn't read the other responses, so sorry if it's a repeat.
I ALWAYS put my overhead sheets in a page protector and use a dry erase marker. Wipes right off with an eraser or even a kleenex. Works like a charm.
