I am so excited! I found out there are a few libraries in the usa that allow for Canadians to use! The library I have access to is OK but usually it takes awhile for new releases and not all books/authors come to my library. I also use an audiobook service (scribd/everand) but their rules have changed and so I am not able to listen to nearly as much per month.. and audible is really expensive.
I got a library card last night, the non-resident fee is $38 annually which is a tremendous deal for me to be able to read all the books i've been wanting to! I know some people don't like the idea of non-residents using the card due to taxes that are paid - but I think since there is a fee it is ok? I think.. I hope! Might be worth looking into if your library doesn't always have the greatest selection. ![]() |

That's amazing! I think it's pretty great that they offer the ability and share books to non-residents, and it's not too expensive! I know NYC offers it, and others around here... but you have to apply in person, so finding this is so wonderful!
Enjoy your books! Which have you DL'ed to read?

Awesome! I think it's a great idea to allow non-residents. Since you are paying a fee, it's money the library would not have had otherwise. And it's good to share with your neighbors. :
I love having my library on my phone. I just started reading a book after taking a break since October.

I had no idea that was an option! That's awesome! If it's ok to ask, can I ask what library you were able to do that?
I wonder if I could have access to French books somehow...

lynn - yes! good point. what book are you reading?
lea - the one I used is "broward county" There are other options though for those in the us! Here is a link for different states: https://everyday-reading.com/where-y...-library-card/ The queens library card is another one that you can get, it's slightly more expensive at $50 but I think they may have an even larger selection. I wonder if any of the libraries in quebec offer non-resident cards for those in the usa? I looked quick and it seems they use this service for a larger selection of french books compared to overdrive. Might be something to look at? I"m not sure <3 https://www.pretnumerique.ca/home |

I'm reading Eruption by Michael Chrichton and James Petterson. Reading and Netflix is how I pretend I'm not also on the exercise bike while doing those activities. LOL

![]() I actually was just looking into getting a non-resident card for the city of Boca Raton's library so my son could do their sustainable agriculture for kids program but it's $120/year *and* I'd still have to drive him to Boca for the class ![]()

It's fast paced and pretty good. I'm not a scientist, so I've had to glaze over a lot of technical jargon. I can still follow what is going on, though.

I'm in a county of around 45,000 people. We do have a nice county library system but I love the fact that it is a member of the Ohio Digital Library. It is a program of the State Library of Ohio and is made up of many smaller libraries in the state. It gives access to so many more books that the smaller libraries couldn't afford to buy themselves. All I had to do was get a library card from my library and I'm in.

From what I know of the library staff, it's the real deal. While I didn't know about this program previously, I do know a few librarians and they honestly just want to get books in people's hands.

I use the broward non resident one too! I think that the King County (seattle area) library also has non-resident cards- I was looking into that one, before I realized as a washington resident, I get reciprocity between our county library & them!
And... adding your TBR list to mine! ![]() ![]()

Oh, and I know it’s cheating, but I grew up in NY, my family is still there, and my sister lets me use her Brooklyn Public Library card. It’s a huge catalogue, I just can’t resist.
