Default computer virus question

So I got a lovely virus warning when I was downloading something from
4shared today. I did the quick norton scan and it said that an unrepairable virus was detected. What does this mean? What do I do? If I do lose everything from my laptop its not a totally lost cause. I'll lose a few layouts and maybe a few kits. But everything is backed up to my ehd.
Would it be bad to plug in my ehd to this laptop now? Can the virus find its way onto my ehd? Or should I just consider the pics and kits and layouts a lost cause at this moment? Ugh....Help!

Uggg...I don't think I would take Nortons as the final word...Do you know anyone else who could help you...Can your quarantine the virus...if you do that it would keep it from infecting anything else until you can find out what exactly to do.
I would NOT plug in your EHD to your computer until you know for sure what is going on.

Thanks for the link. It sounds like the virus where it was posing like an antivirus software and it detected it. It wanted me to run an .exe, but I didn't because it looked weird and not like my typical antivirus software. So I closed that one. But norton says its still there though. I'm running a more comprehensive scan right now to figure out how I can do something about it....

What was the name of the trojan? Also...there is alot of viruses on 4shared with freebies....there was a huge thread about it at DST. Lots of people are getting them. Depending on what type of trojan it is, you can get rid of it easily.

I just read the other posts. It sounds like Malware. Go to majorgeeks.com and DL malware-bytes. It will take all that junk off. You can also DL a registry repair and it should clean up all the remaining stuff that is linked to .exe and .dll files.

Thanks so much. Norton is still running. If it cannot get it off i will check those links out. I think I may be ok. I didn't run the .exe it wanted me to and I closed out of it. It just looked suspicious. So I'm hoping its just the .exe file sitting somewhere on my computer that needs to be deleted.

But this is a reminder that there is just WAY too many files on my computer. I really need to clean it up because this scan is WAYYYY slow....

Ok, that sounds EXACTLY like what happened w/ my computer. A couple of weeks later and it's still not fixed. I'm getting crazy pop-ups, lots of virus warnings...ugh.

Hope yours is an easier fix.

Melissa, it is SO not your fault. I think there is definitely something up with 4shared and I plan on sending them a lengthy email letting them know about it.

btw, I think norton got rid of it. So I think I might be ok. Currently I downloading malwarebytes to run and make sure its truly gone...

It wouldn't hurt to run another AV like this one http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ (it's online and totally free... it won't fix anything but you'll know if it's still there or if it's gone) and I would run another spyware program after malwarebytes... Spybot, AdAware... doesn't matter... some places catch stuff that others don't so it doesn't hurt.

I got the EXACT same message today but quickly closed out without clicking on anything. I knew it wasn't Norton!! I ran a Norton 360 scan and it didn't detect anything so I am ok I hope!!

The exact same thing with me. I should have pulled my internet connection, instead of trying to close windows!
Norton hasn't detected anything on my computer, but I'm wondering if I should run something else to double check.

I ran malwarebytes as well and it didn't detect anything. My computer seems to be running fine...
I'm staying far FAR away from 4shared...
