Talk to me about Font Managers
How exactly to do Font Mangers work?
Is there a way to not have every single font you have come up in Photoshop or in Elements? I seem to have a small font addiction and need a better way to know what I have and how it will look - so hit me with your wisdom and ideas ladies!

I'm on a Mac, and I use Fontcase. You can activate or deactivate fonts, tag them with keywords, group them into collections, preview how they look in a block of text, etc. I really like it, although I need to go through and deactivate some of the fonts that I really don't use that often. It can also identify duplicate or corrupt fonts and protects system fonts so that you don't delete or deactivate them.
I think Fontcase is only for Mac, but I'm sure there are plenty of similar programs for PCs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There is a free font manager called 'Nexusfont' that seems to be the 'preferred' one in the *free* category.
Has anyone downloaded that app for the PC? Which site did you use for the download? Downloading software always make me think twice... I'm looking for a windows 8 version...here's the site I was considering: http://www.windows8downloads.com/win8-nexusfonttsiymuc/

Is Fontcase free? Having just switched to a Mac, I need to replace what I was using on windows. I have a few fonts - not tons but I wouldn't want to load them all - I liked the ability to turn them off and on as needed.
Also, I have my handwriting fonts from back when Darcy was doing them and want to load them - I can't figure out how to get those in "permanently". Thanks! |

http://bohemiancoding.tumblr.com/pos...iring-fontcase So, I guess it wasn't a very helpful suggestion. All Mac computers come with a built in font management program called FontBook. I think all you have to do to install fonts into FontBook is just double click on the font file (.ttf or .otf). I didn't love using FontBook, but it works fine in a pinch.

I use an app called MyFontBook, I really like it. It's basically a cloud app that pulls your fonts and you can categorize them with tags.

I have NexusFont too but I hardly ever use it. I admit I'm confused about the whole install/don"t install thing. Whenever I get a new font I just install it. How do you work with fonts if they're not installed? Where do they live on your PC? And then how do you use them in PSE without installing them? Feel free to point me to a tutorial somewhere!

LOL - I am blissfully unaware of how many I have ... makes me think I really don't need to know!

You can also create subcategories : like only typewriter fonts, or only fancy...and the list goes on. Which ever "folder" you clcik in Nexus that's the fonts you will see in PS. Oh and the reason we don't install all on our PC is because it slows it down, especially when trying to load a TON of fonts that you've installed on your PC when you open PS, talk about lag time. I'll see if I can find a tutorial for NexusFont

So, once you download the fonts and then put them in a "set" you can delete the font from your computer?

So I know this is from looooong ago, but I was wondering if NexusFont is still loved by all?

For some reason Nexus Font stopped working on my PC. I switched to FontBase which is basically the exact same idea & works very similarly. The only caveat was that I had to redo all my collections & such.

This is the best info I've gotten on font managers! I asked here a few years back and I walked away confused. LOL I really need to do something too. I have a huge folder of downloaded fonts but none are installed because I keep having to reformat my laptop.

I'm on a PC. I used NexusFont forever and absolutely LOVE it! I had some kind of glitch a couple of months ago and NexusFont won't work for me anymore (makes me SO sad!!). I'm using FontBase now. I don't like it as well as NexusFont, but at least it works!

If I could get it to work, I would still use it. I still recommend it! It was something that happened when I had too much going on in my system - a memory failure or something.

Amie are you running Windows 10???
Since I've upgraded I found out, Windows 10 blocks Nexus Font from working. So I don't have it any more. BUT I still recommend it if you're not on Windows 10

My NexusFont worked on Windows 10 until only a couple of months ago. Maybe there was an update that killed it?

I only updated to Windows 10 a few months ago and it's never worked on mine. Maybe it was the update?

Awww...that makes me so sad to hear! I was really looking forward to using the program from all the love it was getting. So I guess I will try FontBase. I'm tempted to try NexusFont on mine, but I have Windows 10 and I would hate to put all the work into it for it to just stop working.
Thanks for the replies ladies and giving me an update on it.

I use Font Suitcase. It isn't free, but it is great. It has all the folders, called libraries in this case, for organization too, but what I really like is that you can make some fonts permanent without loading them to your computer. As long as Font Suitcase is open, they will come up in all your programs. All my favorites are always available to me.

I think it stopped working for me even before I got this computer, but maybe? Fontbase works so similarly that it wasn't a big deal, except the redoing all the categories & such!

I have Windows 10 (and I hate it, for the record), so I think I will try Fontbase once I get all of my files downloaded from Crash Plan.

I guess at this point I stick with FontBase. What I really miss about NexusFont is that I could type my journaling (or title, or whatever) and NexusFont showed it to me in all of my fonts.
