I'm off to see the government tomorrow to see if they will pay out my training incentive allowance to allow me to get a new laptop. I won't be too upset if they won't but I would like them to as this one is on its last legs. My appointment is at 1.30pm 8/16 (9.30PM EST 8/15) so if you could pass on any good thoughts I would appreciate it as deep down I have a feeling they are going to say no and ask me to get a cheaper laptop

That's a lot for a lap top. Have you looked at the Dell website? If you buy direct through their website you can save about $500. Hubby did this, and we also got my Mum a desktop from Dell, and it was tons cheaper. And you can customise it to what you need.

thanks all! I won't be too disappointed if I don't get it but this is a way superior laptop to anything I could ever afford - I'm getting the laptop + 2yrs extended warranty for $1598 - it would normally cost $2348

I've heard mixed reviews for Dell laptops from friends so I'd rather stick to a brand I know and have already used

They have accepted my paperwork but I need to take in a letter to support my case from the program leader at my university which I will do tomorrow then it should be 3-4 days before I know either way.

After a fair bit of hassling the department I got my answer today and my application was declined because they said I could use computers at libraries etc for any uni work
