I need a recipe for Sean's birthday cake tomorrow.

What are some of your favorite tried & true cake recipes?

Mine is anything I don't have to bake. I love cakes from Cold Stone Creamery. Yummy!

Doesn't matter. DH doesn't like Coconut, that's pretty much the only thing that would be out.

I have a coke cake recipe I love, but its not my birthday, LOL!

We're a big fan of jello cakes for birthdays at my house.

Just take a regular yellow cake mix and bake it according to directions on the box. Then take it out and let it sit about 30 min. While it's sitting, be mixing up jello. We prefer lime flavor, but any flavor will work. We use a big box of jello and mix it with 3 cups water as opposed to the 4 that it calls for (so it's a little more potent). Then after the cake has set for around 30 min, poke a bunch of holes in it with a fork and pour the jello mixture evenly over the cake. Put it in the fridge to cool, top with cool whip, and serve. YUM!

This is pretty much the same as a cake that my grandma's former next-door neighbor used to make...it is fantastic, esp when it's cold IMO. It uses mandarin oranges, but I've never really been able to taste them in the cake...it just makes it moister.

Here is what we use for birthday cakes in our family - it's a really simple recipe and will make a 2 layer cake or an 11x9 pan cake. I've doubled it before to make a 4-layer cake. It can be "dressed up" by adding any kind of flavoring to it and by adding a pudding layer between the layers. My daughter's favorite is to make it with OJ instead of milk to give it an orange flavor and then have vanilla pudding between the layers, and then use OJ for the frosting too. My dad likes it with pineapple. My sisters both like it pure and vanilla

2 cups flour
1-1/4 cup sugar
2-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/3 cup butter or margarine
1 tsp. vanilla 1 egg
1 cup milk (or other liquid such as juice)

Just put all ingredients in bowl and beat until mixed well. Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes if layers and 30-40 minutes if in one pan. (Just keep an eye on it and take it out when it's done). Easy peasy

Forgot to add that it is a very moist cake and a bit heavier than the "fluffy air" cakes you would by at say the grocery store or from a box mix. We prefer it moister but you might not

This Banana Cake is semi-homemade and sooo fluffy and declicious! If you do end up baking this, don't bake according to this person's directions in the recipe, preheat the oven and bake for about 40 minutes. I've iced it with chocolate, vanilla or cream cheese frosting with chopped walnuts on top for equally good results.

This one is BEYOND amazing and always gets raving reviews around here. (I use heath or skors bars instead of butterfingers though). SO good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very moist and so yummy. I swear, it melts in your mouth!

ETA......pretty much the cake that Nikki posted and I didn't realize when I posted this! LOL

Our go to cake recipe is a Wacky Cake. It's an old recipe from WW2 era that doesn't use eggs. We found this when my son was allergic to eggs, but even though he can eat them now we still use this cake.
