Default Do you use a font manager?

I tried to see if there was a thread about this and couldn't find one, although I do seem to recall a discussion. I'm looking for a good font manager for Vista that preferrably has auto-activation and deactivation if possible. What do you girls use if anything to organize your fonts and make it easier to install and de-install fonts?

I have font thing too. (It's free.) You can group the fonts any which way you want, plus see previews of the text you want to type on your LO. I think for free is mighty nice!

I used a font manager for a while (AMP font viewer, or something like that), but it wasn't that good and I was spending way too much time on organizing and choosing fonts. I went back to having a reasonable number of my favorites fully installed and use those most of the time. If there's something else I want to use, I double click on the ttf and leave it open, which temporarily installs it. Close it and it's uninstalled.

I use amp font viewer but really I only use it for my design work. Otherwise, all the fonts I use for my pages are generally already installed (Darcy fonts, a few Peas, and some CK ones)

I use AMP but since I went to Windows 7 a few months ago it crashes and doesn't install the fonts I need to use, so I have to use fonts that came on the laptop, which sucks as I have Darcy fonts I like to use!!!

I use Bitstream Navigator (as a part of Corel bundle) and I am very satisfied...

I've never used a font manager. Can I use it to choose a font while I'm in my Photoshop?

I thought for a while to use a font manager... but I find myself using just 3 or 4 fonts, so I think I should just delete the tons I have

Irma - I'm like you. I started with TheFontThing, then went to AMPviewer, then to FontHit. I pretty much deleted a good chunk of fonts, kept a CU ok folder and use the same ones over and over again...so dumped a ton and a manager isn't needed anymore, especially now that I upgraded to CS3 and can see the fonts in PS. That was always my biggest thing, not seeing what they looked like.

Font Hit is still my favorite of the ones that I've used. I've tried a lot, but I've used it.

I use MainType. I haven't tried many different ones, but I like it. It's pretty user-friendly.

Thank you for this tip!!!

I use to use Font Thing but then when I upgraded to Vista I couldn't get it to work but that was OK cause I found I used the same handful of fonts over and over but I do have some specialty ones that I love but always hated to install them and uninstall them. But this trick is now my NEW BEST FRIEND!!!

I just tried this and it didn't work, I wonder what I'm doing wrong? Does it show up in your regular font list in PS? (I have CS5)

hmmm...really?

I think that if its the first time you're using the text tool it might load up the font directly with the ttf open, but if you've already opened the text tool it doesn't see the new one from your ttf.

I found that with older versions of CS I would have to close PS (or PSE), then open the ttf file, then re-open PS and then the font would show in the list. Try that?

can you see if that works?

(what's strange is that I thought CS5 ALWAYS saw the newly-opened ttf file; but I do tend to use fonts that I already have installed, so perhaps I just haven't noticed this??)
