Default I really need a desk/craft area

inspire me..I want something with storage and a good workspace. I had a built in countertop awesome area at my old house and I have a dinky makeshift desk right now. I have a little $$ to spend (NOT a lot..just a little lol) so link me up with some inspiration. I live in a big city so I have IKEA, Pottery Barn, any office supply store, home depot, lowes, etc so my resources as far as shopping are pretty unlimited (not the funds--the STORES) lol...help a girl out

The house we're looking at buying has an office in it, and honestly, I can't wait to have my own space! I hope you find something cool!

I finally have my own room but nothing is really in it yet...I love the idea of Saw Horses with a big door or a piece of counter top on it....Lots of space to play there. Then some shelves and stuff....Good Luck with finding something Meg

I REALLY want the cube one from Pottery Barn. I lust after it in every catalogue.

But I have this from Ikea, and I love it. I love having the space underneath the glass so put projects in progress under there and work on something else. The glass actually broke last summer in the move, and I went and bought the same thing, lol. I don't have those legs cuz they never have them in stock near me. Next time I'm in NY I might check there. I like them better than the cheap ones I got (similar, but I really like those ones shown better)

Dude, you can totally make that cube thing for cheap!
Go get yourself two shelving sections @ Lowe's for the ends and put a piece of heavy duty plywood and place on top! Voila...cube thing!

what about an inexpensive version of this with just two generic filing cabinets, a nice piece of painted ply from home depot and a piece of molding on the front to finish it off?

I know, I was tempted to do that last time we went, when we replaced the top. It's still on my mind. I should've looked at them when we were there yesterday for the dining room chairs. The top is awesome. You could definitely get the top, and do the homemade thing from lowes/home depot for the shelving and such.

i wanna do something like this. I really need some sort of homeschool/hybrid work area.

so here's my dumb question -- how do you attach a tabletop to the cubes so that the top isn't sliding around?

I really like the cube one...I've been seeing that all over the place in people's scrap rooms.

I'm having my DH build me a custom desk with 2 sides...kinda like the one that Aggie posted but instead of side by side, they'll be corner ones back to back. I saw it on the Pottery Barn website a year or so ago.

we are going to be starting on our new bedroom later this summer/early fall and i told DH i want my desk to be in the corner with some additional shelves next to it and above it for my paper scrap stuff. right now, its all stuffed into my china cabinet in the kitchen and Emma keeps getting into my ribbon and stuff. She thinks they are pretty, lol. I can't wait. right now i do my crafts on the kitchen table. i want/need my own space! i love that island cube thing, but i don't have anywhere to put that. Good luck, Meg. you have lots of inspiration here to help you!

I'm lucky, I live in a 6 bedroom house with only two kids, so I have a scrap room with built in cabinetry, etc. But, if I didn't, I would be looking at something like this:
http://theoriginalscrapbox.com/

I think I need to add an island to my room though...I like to work standing up a lot.

Shoot, I had a feeling it was Pottery Barn. I love that store but it's waaaaaaaaay out of my price range.

This is my set up :

And I got it here:http://www.officedepot.com/browse.do...064+2000000036

I took those photos a year ago and have filled the shelves up since then. And I hid the wires and took down the nasty chandelier.

But now I am changing it up a bit since I have a laptop. I am also thinking of getting another bookcase for my expanding craft supplies.

ETA: the dining room table is behind me so I just twirl around and use that as a workspace also.

Thanks for the enabling...I've officially notified the hubby that the Pottery Barn project table (or comparable knock-off) is on the wish list for my birthday in July. Guess I better make space for it.

I ended up with a desk from IKEA and closetmaid cubes from Target/Lowes (both--same brand though just happened to catch them on sale at target then wanted more and caught them on sale at Lowes)

It's a MESS right now but I'll post pics eventually

My house has an office with lots of shelving and desk space. My dad is building me a built in L shaped desk that will sit in the corner.

Holly McCaig built a cube desk like the pottery barn one for a fraction of the cost...you might be able to it on her blog:

I'm about to get a new desk for the living room to replace the cheap 10-year-old hand-me-down from DH's grad school days that I currently use. I looked at IKEA and didn't find anything I loved that would work for me, but I've been loving a lot of the desks in the Staples catalog. Here's my favorite (today, LOL) from the Apothecary Collection. I don't have the money or space for the L-shaped configuration, unfortunately, so my configuration will be more like the part that's along the back.

Plus I really need a bookshelf or something to store my growing stash of crafts & hybrid supplies cause right now they have taken over the kitchen table so we have no place to eat lol. I love the cube from Pottery Barn but even if I could afford to buy it I have nowhere to even put it in this house!

I have an old buffet that we inherited when DH's grandmother died. Since i paper scrap, way more than digital, it works great for me. with it I have shelves and drawers and a pulldown work top(suitable if you like to scrap standing or use a stool) But I also have a deidcated scrap room, albeit it's a temp one at this moment so I have a 1 large table I use as my desk for the laser printer, pc and dual monitors, and I have a medium sized table for when friends come to scrap. ....I'll take a pic of the buffet later to show you.
