Default Kit organization?

I'd like to know how you guys keep your stuff organized. I have ACDSee but at this point, it's just overwhelming for me to even know where to start!

how do you have your things organized on your computer? especially the new things that you've not used yet... I have my new stuff on my computer and then Used kits on my EHD.

Screenshots would be wonderful LOL

Thanks!

I keep all my kits in seperate folders in a main folder which is called scrapbooking stuff. I title each folder by the kit name-designer name. Inside each of these folders I have several sub-folders. They are usually alpha/backgrounds/elements/templates/wordart. These are also titled by the kit name/designer name. I tried the ACDSee orgnizing method but couldnt really get into it and found that the way I was doing it is the best way for me. I download the kit and keep it in a downloaded folder until I use it once then it is sorted and moved to my scrapbooking folder. I tend to mix/match alot and dont have a hard time remembering the kits and what they look like so this method does work for me. Occasionally though I do find a kit that I bought months ago and havent really used as it just got kinda forgotten but this is kinda fun too because it is alsmost like getting a brand new kit :-)

Let me just preface by saying I'm not the most organized, lol. I have a folder for each of my CTs and for shoppes that I don't have CT's with, I have a folder for each shoppe. I also have separate folders for actions, brushes, embellishments and alphas. I keep all of my new kits in a folder until I transfer them to my EHD and CD and I have a folder for unused kits, so I don't forget about them. I've never tried ACDSee. I like the concept of it, but tagging items seems a bit unappealing to me, lol (I'm very lazy about that kind of thing).

I just organized all of my digital files on my new laptop. It was kind of neat to see everything that I have (some of which have never been used ).

I started out by organizing all of my stuff according to which store I purchased it from, i.e Sweet Shoppe Designs, ScrapOrchard, etc. Then I also have a seperate folder for each CT.
After that, I tried organzing "papers" and "elements" in seperate folders, so I could look at all my buttons, or ribbons all together. However, after doing that, I realized that I am really a "kit" scrapper, rather than taking a bunch of individual files from different kits (too hard for me to keep track of all the credits).

Right now, all I have is each kit, according to store/designer and all of my papers, elements and alphas from the kit all together, so I can see everything in that kit. Does that make sense?

I also have an individual file for "Holiday" kits and alphas, cuz those are the 2 that I'm likely to pick and choose from.

I think you just have to figure out what kind of a scrapper you are and go from that. Sometimes you just have to start and then figure out what will work best for you.

Good luck! It's a big job!!

I have mine organized in a bunch of different categories... boyish, girlie, gender neutral, spring, summer, fall, winter (with holiday-specific folders within each of the seasons), templates, quick pages, elements w/o additional papers, etc. It makes it pretty easy to find what I'm looking for. Then, each kit is labeled with the designer's name & the store I bought it from.

Mine are done by store, then by designer. I've tried other methods, and this one works best for me. If a designer leaves a store, I just move their folder to their new store, or, if they retire, to my "retired designers" folder.

I am though, not liking the "guest" spots designers are taking, not because I don't like them branching out, but because they aren't staying in that store very long, then I don't know what to do with their stuff LOL
