Ok girlies, how do I dry up my milk, fast!
Harper has been successfully off the boob for 9 days and all moved out of our bed and into his brother's room, now my boobs are finally starting to feel it and hurt so much!
I don't remember having this much trouble when I stopped nursing Coop. Anyhow, give me your suggestions! |

For some reason I'm thinking people say to use frozen cabbage leaves to help with the pain. Maybe...? I don't know, with the older three I never had issues with pain or engorgement after they stopped.

I got some cabbage today, that seemed to help with the pain until they aren't cold anymore.
I'll try the decongestant |

Maybe you can pump or hand express just a little bit each day (less and less each day) to slowly "wean" the amount down to nothing.. I hope you can find a solution! My daughter weaned herself slowly down to nothing, so I'm not much help..

Ah! That happened to me when I weaned Grace. For me, a heating pad pressed to them helped (I think I kept it on for a whole day practically). Tylenol. A quick shower with pounding hot water on them is a huge relief too (usually because it causes a little letdown, but honestly I needed something to take away the pain).
With Ben, I weaned him so gradually (at 2 years old) that I never had any discomfort. |

Ice packs or cabbage leaves inside your bra
Tight fitting sports bra, even for sleep NO stimulation to nipples - even the shower can stimulate production so minimize the water beating on your front side Tylenol or Ibuprofen for discomfort **The heating pad suggested will help with let down and cause you to leak/flow more - it's good for clearing a clogged duct and does relieve some of the discomfort, but if you are wanting to stop nursing it won't stop the milk production like ice packs or cabbage leaves do. The Antihistamine is a great suggestion too as decreased supply is a side effect.

It depends on how you're weaning. Because I didn't do it gradually, letting some milk flow occasionally (like in a warm shower) when I was super engorged and in pain was a 'natural' way of weaning. I used the cabbage and a decongestant (I think sudafed?). I don't think the heat packs or showers encouraged additional supply. But, it's not like I had much of a choice... unless I restricted myself to cold showers... haha. The sprinkler system effect. you kwim...

He's been weaned off during the day since his first birthday in October, we were only nursing at night. Between like 11 and 7:30 am, so it's been pretty gradual, I mean it's been 9 days and this is the first pain I've really had a all. Thanks everyone!
