Default What font organizer do you use?

I just bought a new computer and I'd like to "upgrade" my font organizer. I've been using The Font Thing, but it always locks up on me, so I was hoping to find something even better. I know Darcy recommended one a while back (I don't recall what it was), but I searched for it, I couldn't find a valid link to download it from. Any suggestions on a good font organizer?

Thank you in advance!

They are pretty neat, you can organize and install fonts (or leave them uninstalled, but still view them). They can be quite convenient! You should definitely check them out, most are free!

Darcy uses Font Hit I think. I could never get it to install for me (don't know if it's a Vista issue or just my incompetence).

A friend recommended Font Explorer but she says it's not available right now, I think they're finalizing it or something?

Thanks Mimi! That's the one I tried before but couldn't find a good link to DL from (fonthit.com doesn't work). I just tried googling fonthit download and found something. I have Vista, so I will let you know if it work. It's giving me a prompt to install .NET Framework for it to download. So I'm doing that right now.

Ugh, that .NET framework thing is SUCH a pain in the butt. I'm pretty sure it's what wrecked my last computer (started having issues once I installed it)...and I tried installing it on my new computer and made it start crashing for no reason, too...

I wish I would have read this before I started the .NET framework install. As soon as I installed it, my PS wouldn't work and when I tried to install fonthit, it kept telling me I needed to install .NET framework (which I already had done) .... so I promptly uninstalled it, lol. I installed TFT, but it won't install fonts for me??? I wonder if it's a Vista thing??? *sigh* I'm going to see if I can find some info on the Font Explorer.

I thin TFT doesn't like me because I have 1,800 fonts and it gets confused, lol. If it didn't freeze on me, I'd love using it! Perhaps I need to do some font cleaning

Yah, it was that darn .NET thing that wouldn't work for me. I meant to mention that I use AMP Font Viewer for viewing and installing (or temporarily installing) fonts.

Thank you so much Mimi!!! Yeah, I'm not diggin' the .NET thing too much! Yikes! I did search for the Font Explorer, but it's still down. I did find something else called FontXplorer which seems okay.

I use LinoType FontExplorer X and LOVE it! It was written for Mac OS X, but they are developing a Windows versions. They just finished beta testing and are preparing the final product. You can get more info here: http://www.linotype.com/3321/freedownloadpc.html

Best of all, it's FREE!

That's so weird because I don't have a problem with it at all. I bet it's totally a Vista thing.

I use AMP Font Viewer. It's free and easy to install & has no problem dealing with all my fonts. You can see your installed & uninstalled fonts and can categorize both of them. They just released a new version of it.

I have a love-hate relationship with The font thing. It annoys the heck out of me.
I tried to d/l the one Darcy recommended and it didn't operate well for me either.
Then I d'l the Font xplorer. I FREAKIN LOVED it. Then I had a system issue and in the trials and tribulations of b/u and reinstalling I naturally assumed I didn't have to worry about the beta font program; I would d/l again when I was back up and running. Poor me-now the dang thing is off the d/l market and being finalized.

Definitely not a Vista thing...my old (and new) computers both run XP.

ETA: Nevermind...I see you were talking about The Font Thing, and not the .NET framework, lol. I use The Font Thing without problems too (on XP, lol).

I use AMP Font Viewer. It's ok...I honestly don't use it much. I just keep my basic fonts and all of Darcy's installed all the time, so I don't have much need to go in for the others. But I have used it and it seems good!
