Wow! I think I have a girl crush on you now Awesome post! Can you tell me exactly how to get stills from the video on your iphone? I'm totally getting into self portraits as part of the process of loving the new me and I think that would be really fun to try!

Aw thank you!
Well, there are probably easier ways, but I was out and about when I did that, so I actually replayed the video on my phone and did screenshots (push power and home buttons at the same time). It required a little repetition and finesse to time it so that the pause feature showed up when you needed it to freeze the frame and then to allow it to disappear to capture the screen. A couple of things I love about the video method is that I'm likely to capture expressions I wouldn't normally as I try to pose, AND it gives me a larger resolution photo than the front camera (even tho I used it for the video, too). |

Oh man, looks like I have to share my girl crush with the boss
I'm so glad you did this because I absolutely adore your daily pics which I'm totally going to do at 40... Tho, I might start this year at 39, because I think it's such an awesome idea... And thanks for the tute on getting the still shot from video, I think it's brilliant and so true that the pictures are more natural when you aren't posing... And I didn't realize the resolution was better too |

Loved this post Krystal!! Very fitting as I snapped some shots yesterday afternoon after my hair appointment, and then took a few hours this morning taking self maternity shots!

You are so freakin' gorgeous. Awesome post. You have inspired me, too. Getting in front of the camera more is a big goal of mine this year with Project Life.

Great post! I hate taking photos of myself but I've learned its just something I need to do because I'm always the one with the camera. I pass it off to DH as much as possible but those pictures always make me look like I weigh 500 pounds and my eyes are always closed. LOL

It's not a huge difference in resolution, but can make a big diff on a scrapbook page.
I have the iPhone 4 (not 4s) Front camera is normally: 480 x 640 Video stills are: 640 x 960 I have some apps that actually resize my photos much larger when I use them to edit/save and they still look really good considering the source. Picstitch is one of them. And I bet there is a video editing app that makes getting the stills easier. I've not done research on it yet tho. Last edited by krystalhartley; 02-23-2012 at 05:05 PM. |

Great post Krystal! I loathe photos of myself, but you've inspired me to try to take some self portraits. It may be a great way to document my weight loss journey. If I ever look half as good as you, I will be content. You really are a lovely woman.

Ok, tried some of my own today after being inspired by you Krystal! This is REALLY fun and all of these are stills from video - what a brilliant idea to capture different, natural expressions!
Thank you so much for sharing! R

Oh, Krystal, what a fabulous post! I never even though of the fact that doing all that silly in the bathroom shots were giving me harsh light and shadows. I mean, seriously, I know that why did it take a blog post to tell me it works the same in self portraits and normal ones. lol Also love the idea of taking a video. Can't wait to try this out!

Oh, Krystal, I always love seeing your self portraits pop up on FB. Thanks for the nudge to take my own. Now if we could just talk abt how you get your hair so long and gorgeous-y, I'll really be on board with this idea...

And I don't recommend my method for getting long hair. I was kind of in a yucky place and rarely left the house...kept my hair up in a clip all the time. It was long before I knew it. I don't use a lot of product or heat, and I don't wash it every day either. But I'm 40...I'm pretty sure I couldn't do that when I was in my 20s or even early 30s. |
