I've printed instagram photos on my home printer and they came out great. I've never printed any of my layouts before, so I'm no help there! I'm just assuming they would come out just as good as a regular picture would.

I checked the size once and it popped up as an 8.5 x 8.5, if that helps at all.

Can someone explain instagram photos to me? What is the purpose of, or beauty in doing them? Is it just to get a retro look? I see them all over but I just don't 'get it'.

i use them on a lot of my layouts and i love them. granted, i don't use them as a huge focal point on the LO, but they look fine.
i use instagram photos bc a lot of times i don't have my 'good' camera with me, so i use my iphone. instagram is just the app i use to share them.

I've used my instagram photos on layouts, and I love them! Most of the time, when I use them in PS, I make them smaller than they open, so I'm not changing the pixel dimensions larger, which causes distortion or bad images.
My instagram pics save to my photos when I sync my phone... not sure with the Android system, but I'm sure you could e-mail them to yourself. Even use the copies you upload to FB, but you might have to make the images smaller for better quality. Not sure. |

Laura, when I plug in my iPhone, the autoplay of Windows 7 gives me the option to import the photos, so I save them directly into my computer harddrive. Does that happen to you? Before that I was totally emailing the photos to myself, lol.

How does it differ from regular phone pics? What does instagram pics offer that regular phone pics doesn't have? I see the hype of it everywhere, but haven't been able to figure out what am I missing from not having the app on my phone. I used to think that it's only iPhone app, but based on Tanyia's post, now it seems like it's on Android too?

I think it was recently released on Android ... at least I heard about it recently. You can just add filters if you want to your pics but you do not have to. For me I like just being able to connect with digi friends and see their cute pics. It is kinda like FB for photos lol I guess. It is nice to see another glimpse into people's lives I guess, especially when you feel you get to know them in a way through their layouts and such, this just adds to it, imo

I have photostream auto backing up to my computer. I alternate between there and icloud mine saves that way and I don't even have to plug in my phone.

I haven't had any layouts using Instagram printed yet....
I take pics with my iPhone most of the time now because it's so convenient and I'm not missing those random "I wish I had my camera with me" moments since I always have it on me and I just don't carry my dSLR with me everywhere because it's hard to carry a toddler, and a diaper bag and a big camera all the time LOL plus, the filters and social media part of it is just FUN!!! I scrap with them because they are my everyday memories that I just don't want to forget, and I would have missed if I didn't have the iPhone with me... they are so awesome for Project Life and AWITL layouts too |

Thanks for the imput everyone, for me I use instagram to basically capture pics I don't have my camera with me for. It's convienent instead of lugging my dslr everywhere. plus I like the filters x

I have printed a ton for my Project Life album:
I have an iPod and the resolution is 2 x 2. But that's perfect for PL! I believe an iPhone will give you 4 x 4? I love using these so much. It takes the pressure of taking "the perfect snapshot" off me. And I get more real life photos. I usually share these on FB, right-click to save them to my desktop and then open a 4 x 6 document to stick them on. I save that and take it with me to Target. Simple! I also use camera phone photos a lot. And I run actions on them to get an "Instagram-ish" effect.

I don't really have much to add, other than I *heart* Instagram! I am addicted to the filters and have used quite a few IG pics on my LOs. Like Heather said, it's totally useful and helpful for capturing those spontaneous, everyday moments when you don't have your "regular" camera on hand.

Jen, I had my photostream auto backed up on iCloud too, and then I went batty because it looked like I had tons of duplicates of my photos so I disabled it. I import my photos every other day anyhow

I use the android version and there are a couple ways that i get the photos onto my computer.
The instagram photos automatically save to their own gallery on my phone. I can plug in my phone and transfer them that way. I personally use DropBox. I swear that DropBox is the greatest thing since bread.
