Default PSE 12 - The Case of the Giant Elements

I got PSE 12 for Christmas, and am finding my way around pretty well in the program. One thing that is annoying me, though, that I hope maybe someone can help me with is: Giant Elements. I typically create 12x12 LO's, and when I drag and drop an element on to the screen - it is literally 12x12 and takes over the whole screen. This works OK for somethings, but it is getting annoying when trying to place a little button or a single flower... I am finding myself giving the scroll wheel on my mouse double the workout scrolling out to resize (then waiting for my page to reload when I scroll back in.) Does anyone have any clue as to how to change the size of our elements so they don't take over the whole screen when dropped onto the page in PSE 12? Thanks!

Are you sure your 12x12 pages are set to 300 ppi? They may default to 72, which is only 864x864 pixels. Any element about 3 inches (at 300 ppi) would be bigger than that.

What Krystal said. Someone else mentioned this on another board and when she checked, her canvas size was off. Hopefully that will fix it. I'm also a new PSE 12 user and haven't had this problem... but I was going crazy trying to figure out how to keep my actions/effects window from disappearing. Finally figured it out.

Thanks for the suggestions, girlies. But, yep - my resolution is set at 300 ppi. Back to the drawing board...

Ohh... I was just googling this. I never drag and drop, I copy and paste and don't have this problem. However, I found this link that might help if you're a drag and dropper: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5955998

Do you have it set to inches or centimeters? ... and what are the pixel dimensions of your pages? It seems like it has to do with one of your settings, so that's why I ask
