TIFF + Lost Layers

So my computer made a funny noise while I was doing a page. I quickly saved it as a TIFF file (as usual) and it was done and my computer shut itself down. Upon restarting it, my layers are gone. All I had left to do was touch up the journaling and I was done. I didn't change my save settings, it was just as it always is. What happened? Is there any way for me to get my layers back?

I don't know what happened but I can say I've had the same thing happen. I was so excited to see that my TIFF did save and then when I opened it and it was flattened I was crushed. I had been using a template and I had some of the template layers opened so it saved with those showing and I couldn't even use what I had been working on.
