Default Fantastical Shadow Tutorial

Soooooo, I started following Peppermint's blog once she started designing under One Little Bird over at Catscrap. She is HILARIOUS! I love reading her blog posts.

Anyway. She just posted an absolutely fantastical tutorial on shadowing. I DEF picked up a few tips and learned a new tool (the smudge tool?? say what?!). So, if you're interested in shadowing tut's, you should check it out.

http://frickonastick.com/

Yes, that's the name of her blog. HI-larious.

awesome thanks. makes me really really wish i had CS4 though. PSE6 doesn't separate the drop shadow layer unless you do it yourself and its a pita.

OMG, that was awesome. I always hoped one day she'd share her tricks because her shadowing is amazing.

This was my favorite line:

Because after this, your shadow will be so free-spirited you’ll be able to buy it a Prius and teach it how to make its own granola bars.

LOL! I haven't read the tutorial yet, but I have a feeling I'll be adding a new blog to my list after I do.

Peppermint is a scrappin Goddess and her designs are so pretty. Plus she's good friends with my girl, Christine (Listgirl Designs), so she's gotta be cool.

You totally will Rachel, lol.

I liked the part about leaving it on multiply, but if you do change it don't come crying to me that your shadows are AWESOME! LOLOL!!

I do pretty much everything she did (except I warp instead of smudge, cuuuuz I didn't know about the smudge tool), but that second layer with the larger blur and all that?? WOWZA!! THAT is the secret man. I'm SO EXCITED to try this out. If I ever scrap a regular digi page again that is, lol! (I've been doing hybrid pages lately and LOVING IT.)

Peppermint had dropped that she used linear burn a couple of years ago in a thread at MSA, and I've been doing it that way ever since. Makes a world of difference IMO.

I only don't like the linear burn on certain light colored papers. It does something weird on them for me, IDK.

I will sometimes change the color of my shadow on really light papers (objects) to a shade that is just slightly darker than the paper.

like this maybe

That makes sense. And I know tons of ppl say to do that, and I just never think to actually do it when I run into that problem, lol.

Oh yes, Col, if I could shrink down to fairy size and have Peppermint carry me around in her pocket and sprinkle chocolate chips down towards me to eat and just be able to be near her scrappin' goodness... sigh. What a life that would be.

Ha ha, when I saw the tut I said to her, "dude... TWO shadows per item?? I'm too lazy for that! I dunno if I LOVE my pages THAT much!" And she said "you gotta have the love!" So I decided that I'll shadow ONE thing on my page like that, so at least one item on my page has that awesome dimension. The rest of the items on the page can just be jealous.

What a fantastic tut! I have been using linear burn for a while and it has been awesome, but two shadows and smudge! My eyes are open and I am ready to go!

you guys seriously have to quit talking about Peppermint like this. She's not that great....she just thinks she is.

When I talked to her once I peed a little cause I was so scared. She's that intimidating.
