Default One more Kindle thread - about light

Okay - so I'm getting my Kindle!! Waiting on birthday money to show up and ordering.

The thing I'm stuck on now is covers + light

I'm told that I won't be able to read in the car at night w/o a light. While most of my reading time will be in daylight...do I want to order the cover for the Kindle Keyboard that has a light in the jacket? Or..go with the M-Edge Vinyl that I can store the light in the cover itself, but not have great protection from oops. Not many of the book style covers lend themselves to light storage. I know if I don't keep the light with the kindle, I'll lose it for when I really need it.

Thoughts?

I have a little book light that I've had forever. I'm planning on just putting it in my car for those times when I want to read. I don't want a cover, just a skin, so that is why I've eliminated the covers for me personally.

I have a book style cover and separate book light, which I use much less than I expected.

Darcy...not sure which Kindle you are getting but I have this cover and light and LOVE it for my Kindle 3

M-Edge Executive Kindle Jacket

I too knew that I would lose the light (or the kids would steal it) and I love that it lays down flat right beside my Kindle and is always there when I need it!! Plus since the cover is just a tad bigger then the Kidle it gives me a nice little "ledge" to hold on to while I read!!!

So you can just lay it down and keep it stored in there all the time? That would rock!

I have this cover with the built in light and I really like it. I've never been a fan of book lights w/real books but this one I use a lot. I love that the sucker just slides right in/out and isn't so bulky even when it's open. I was iffy on the purchase but it's been a very good buy.

I have a similar cover to Elizabeth's with the same light. Love it. I use it EVERY night in bed due to hubby sleeping.

My son has the same as Elizabeth and I covet it. I have a case it slides in, but I don't like just holding the Kindle. It feels insubstantial and I'm petrified I'm going to drop it. I'm so careless with books that I'm worried I'll do something to the Kindle without thinking. I want a cover and am asking for one for Christmas. I'm asking for one with a built in light, so I hope I get it. It would make reading in bed easier (but I've also never used a book light in the past, so not sure why I think I need one now...).

I'll hopefully be getting my Kindle in February. I'm not going to buy a light though because the way I see it, I don't need a book light to read an actual book, so I won't need one to read my eeader either, kwim?

From what I've heard, it's like a book - so if it's dark in the room, it's dark on the screen - you need some light to be able to read by.

it does..it reads just like a book (you can read in the sun unlike some ereaders but not in the dark w/out a light)

I just use the kindle app on the ipad to read in bed if dh is sleeping

I have the m Edge as well & it works great. Friend of mine has the other kind with the built in light & she likes it but unlike the M-edge it's fixed. With the m-edge you can put the light on either side or take it out entirely & use it as a flashlight should you need to.

Yes, but I never use a book light to read real books, so I doubt I'll need a book light to use the eeader. I'll just use an actual lamp if I'm reading in the night.

I pre-ordered a Kindle that will be here in Nov, and I've been struggling with the cases and lights, too. If I get a light I'd want the Kindle lighted case, but I'm finding it hard to justify the cost for a light I'll hardly ever use. For now I'm going with an inexpensive book-style case and will use a book light I already have if I need it. If I find myself using the light a lot I'll splurge on one of the official lighted covers when they're on sale. I don't think I'd get the M-Edge case. I think having a light hanging there all the time would bother me if I rarely used it.

I have a M-Edge with the light shown in one of the previous posts. M-Edge has cases for all of the major eeaders (I have a Nook). They also have a "make your own" version where you can upload your own images to make a cover with. Very cool. I am not positive that all of their cases have a "spot" for the light -- so if you order one make sure it is one that holds the light. It will say in the description.

I love my light. It tucks away on the side and doesn't interfere with my reading or the closing of the cover. It fits perfectly. You can move it around or take it off. The light is brighter than others I have used in the past (just the basic book lights -- not specifically made for eeaders) and it takes AAA batteries which is a plus since who wants to have to find some weird size battery when you need to replace it. I don't use it often -- about the only time I have used it is when we travel and we are driving late at night or before sunrise. I can't sleep in a vehicle even as a passenger -- so I love having my Nook with my light. It is pretty darn dark in the cab of the truck at night and I still am able to read without straining my eyes. I have to adjust it a bit to get it exactly right -- but it has a bendy arm so you can do that.

I had a cover made by B&N for the Nook previous to my M-Edge and there is no comparison. I think the M-Edge might have been slightly cheaper and mine is leather. I believe the prices for covers has come down quite a bit in the last year -- they don't seem as expensive as they used to.

I don't use a light with mine much, but I have the Tuff-Luv cover and really like it. The cover has a stand that you can pop out to prop it up. I love this feature because I like to read while I eat and this stand allows you to do that easily. Just thought I'd throw another option out there.

I have the same cover/light as Elizabeth except my cover is red. I love that light. It's touch activated and has three different lights. It lasted a long time before I had to changed the battery which surprised me since it's AAA.

Ditto for me on this one - I have it in green. I love it and use the light daily in bed. The light tucks away so you don't even know it is there and it's ready whenever you need it.
