Your best cold/flu recovery advice?
Ok ladies! I have my first cold in months! (And here I thought I'd be safe now that srping has sprung!)
I slept 10 hours last night and I'm taking some Tylenol for a headache and throat lozenges for the sore throat. I'm drinking lemon water and alternating with hot lemon tea with honey. I had chicken noodle soup for lunch and a nice protein-full yogurt shake, because I hear that protein is good for the immune system. I'll take Nyquil tonight to make sure I get a good sleep. And I'll sit in a steamy bathroom later to clear my head. What are your best tricks to feel relief? I have a busy week ahead! (Who am I kidding, all weeks are busy weeks!) |

My flight attendant friend told me her tricks are hot honey water and chewable vitamin C (but not too much, otherwise you'll have diarrhea). I tried them during my cold a couple of weeks ago...I rarely get colds, so not much to compare it to, but my throat felt better sooner.
Hope you feel better soon! |

The vapor rub on the feet is a godsend! Helped clear my sinuses AND settle my cough (hated waking up bec of a cough). I slather it on my feet then wear socks

Epsom Salt baths are great! I do nice hot water and 2 cups to a normal sized bath when I'm sick. I soak for about 15-20 minutes (I've heard soaking too long in Epsom salts is actually bad... Not sure if that's true). I can actually feel the effects if I do Epsom baths nightly every day I feel sick.
Lemon is a huge thing for me when I'm sick, tea with lots of fresh lemon squeezed in. Also, a spoonful of honey soothes the throat before bed so my scratchy dry throat doesn't keep me awake. That, or ricola brand lozenges with herbs and honey. |

I use local honey and cinnamon mixed together. Also, ginger and garlic are good!

I hope you feel better soon! It sounds like you're doing all of the right things. Staying hydrated and getting rest are probably the most important factors for a speedy recovery.

I usually get one cold a year and it's almost always in the late spring, never during the dead of winter. I take 1000 of vitamin C daily year round and do a lot of the things mentioned above but the one thing I do that helps limit the symptoms and the length of the cold is start taking Zicam chewables as soon as I start to feel the cold coming on. It cuts down the symptoms a LOT and the cold only lasts a few days - worth every penny to me.

Thanks guys! I'm starting to feel way better. Fortunately, I also think it's not going to turn into a sinus infection -- which my colds have a habit of doing, especially in allergy season when I'm stuffy all the time anyway.
