Default What Kind of Holiday Activities Are You Doing This Month?

I love, love, love getting out and doing fun Christmas-y things this month. Share what you do to celebrate Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/other December holiday. I am always looking for new things to do.

On my list for this month is
--decorating my parents' house & tree
--making and having Christmas cards printed (I do double-sided 4x8 at Vistaprint)
--going to a tree farm to get our tree (our first time having a real tree -- yippee!)
--decorating our tree
--making a gingerbread house
--attending the library's holiday-themed open house
--celebrating St. Nicholas Day
-inging the Salvation Army bell outside a store
--service project in St. Nicholas' name: reading to the animals at the Humane Society (this is really my daughter's project as I'm allergic to cats)
--going ice skating at the temporary rink at the mall
--making Christmas cookies with Grandma
-eading a different Christmas book every night before bed
--singing at church (again, just my daughter)
--Christmas concert
--helping the kids buy presents for each other & their dad
-iding the Candy Cane Express (train)
--Christmas movie nights with popcorn on the weekends
--Walk Through Bethlehem at a local church
--Winterfest at a local park
--driving around to see the lights

*Advent Calendars
*Need to assemble tree & decorate, assemble Lego holiday sets for mantel and maybe put up some outside lights
*Taking youngest to see Christmas Vacation at the movie theater
*Taking youngest to see Polar Express at COSI
*Going to a drive-thru light display
*Wildlights at the Zoo
*Going to Dickens of a Christmas at local history center (first and probably last time tbh. youngest is a 6th grader and I figure this is the last year to cram in a lot of Christmas magic)
*Going to Nutcracker show via American Girl store (you have brunch there and then they bus you to the theater. first and last time, see above)
*I'd like to take youngest to a local Conservatory that has a gingerbread house contest and pretty trees/pointsettia displays - for the photos if I'm being honest!
*Not doing the Polar Express train ride. DD is too old and the tickets are so expensive. I will miss it though!

For me, things are getting really shaken up this year. My sister and I are leaving tomorrow morning for an 8 night stay in Walt Disney World and we'll be doing all the Christmas stuff there.

I am so blah this year! Last year I had a whole monthly calendar for every day of the month and this year I barely even want to move We have our tree up which is nice. We are making paper chains tonight after going to the eye doctor. There is a Christmas program in the park behind our house on the 10th so we will do that. I told hte kids we would bake cookies every weekend so we are making snickerdoodles tomorrow I think. That's about all that is "planned" really :/

Hanukkah just isn't as big a deal as Christmas. (Which is a good thing for my lazy self!) We'll do Mensch on the Bench (like Elf on a Shelf) again, put up a few decorations, and that will be it until Hanukkah. DD's birthday falls over Winter Break, so we'll have family visiting that week and will probably have a family-only Hanukkah party with traditional foods and games.

So far this is what I have, but planning to add to it.

Drive through lights (weather is surprisingly not icy/snowy so hoping to grab this one soon so we can take my 92 year old grandmother)

decorate gingerbread house (yearly tradition)

Try a new hot chocolate recipe every week/weekend (something new I'm adding this year. Thought it might be fun. Plus I'm taking Nettio's Holiday Faves class and wanted a new tradition to add. ).

I dream of going to WDW at Christmas. Would love to see scrapbook pages of the fun you have there!

We'll put the tree up at some stage, make some Christmas biscuits and maybe look at Christmas lights in the neighbourhood... that's about it for Christmassy stuff. We have six weeks of summer holidays coming up so I really need to start thinking about how to keep the kids occupied!

We have a few traditions:

- Trim the tree on or just before December 1st
- Elf on the Shelf arrives on December 1st with advent calendars
- Go see the Christmas lights display
- Put together a gingerbread house
- Read an xmas book each day
- Put out cookies and milk for Santa and a carrot for the reindeer
- Watch the radar online showing Santa's sleigh on xmas eve
- Open one present each on xmas eve after dinner
- Say farewell to our Elf on xmas eve
- Open the stockings first on xmas morning
- Have oven baked French toast for breakfast on Christmas Day
- Have Christmas Pasta for dinner on Christmas Day

This year we're also carolling with our kid's school.
